My folks in Chennai are hitting the FUP limit pretty often.

Current plan is Swift 1099 : 2Mbps / 15GB FUP. Rental : 1099 + taxes.

Apart from Airtel's higher FUP plans, what other options do we have?

Some options I've looked at : -

Tata Indicom : I think I ditched this option because it was wireless; plans weren't good; sales network seemed iffy

Reliance : Lots of complaints about billing

Wi5 : bottle suggested this. Not able to find much feedback on reliability/speed.

Anything else?

Would be good if its reliable. So far Airtel almost never goes down and thats the only positive part of their service.

Why not look at other plans for failtel like 75GB / 150GB? .I am using the 150GB one and i rarely touch the limit , its little expensive but as said service is good.

ISP : Wi5

Plan : 1Mbps UL

Price : Rs 992

No idea why it shows as reliance communictions

They also have 2 Mbps UL plan not mentioned on their site for like Rs2200 (not sure it could be less)-both are truly unlimited plans no crap fair usage whatsoever.-on torrents from private trackers i get 100-110KB/s.Service is good they dispatch people to your the same day you register the complaint in my area-you can easily download 6-7 GB/day with my plan.

Thanks #sam000

Unfortunately I just looked at their coverage map and it looks like they don't cover my area. Mailed them just to confirm.

I have been using BSNL for last 4 years and i always get the advertised speed. The connection is pretty steady and very rare downtime. Their Customer service is also good AFAIK.

They have true unlimited plans.I have UL750 plan and i use up to 60gb per month.

The OP might need More than 1Mbps. Now a days who uses 512kbps internet(Except those BSNL guys)

Op was more talking about hitting FUP thats why i suggested BSNl.I use 512kbps and the speed is sufficient even for BF3 online gaming without any lag, more than that the

plan op mentioned gets reduced to 256 kbps after FUP,where as i get the same speed for as much data i use.

Yup, saw the BSNL 512Kbps plan. A 1Mbps plan would've been ok, but dropping from 2Mbps to 512K might not be a good idea.

Looks like I'll switch to a higher FUP plan for the time being.

Eddy sir had mentioned in the first post that he is concerned with their problems in billing.

Also do note that reliance plans require you to log and logout every 24 hrs. (though you can get around it

Sorry for bumping an old thread.

Same requirements as the OP. Can consider Wireless too.

Have Airtel but the FUP is worse.

Reliance not favoured.

How is

You

Tikona

Wi5

BSNL EVDO

Looking at <1000 or <1500 range options.

Go with You, they have a plan 'Hurricane You', you also has FUP, but unlike airtel, the speed you get after FUP is 1 Mbps, which in my opinion is quite good, 12 Mbps upto 25GB and 1Mbps thereafter @Rs. 1122, also all prices mentioned are inclusive of all taxes, you can check the other plans here :

I've been using You Broadband for six months, I live in Hyderabad, and so far i have not faced any problems, But unfortunately we in Hyderabad have a plan "You Transformer" which it seems is not available in Chennai, I get 10 Mbps upto 30 GB and 2 Mbps thereafter for Rs. 763

Does it work in Chennai and where do i apply for it? Does it have any FUP on it.

I thought MTNL is for delhi & mumbai and not chennai.
