Hi,

I have just shifted to a Hostel in Vidya Vihar area of Mumbai and the internet provided by hostel is pathetic. I have been used to 2mbps for so loong that normal connection seems too slow. Also I am not allowed to get a seperate cable connection so was looking for Wireless Options.

I tried BSNL EVDO while I was in pune and wasn't happy with the service - They claimed it was UPTO 2mpbs and i never got more than 128kbps sometimes even worse. So i am skeptical for that.

I heard Wireless provided by Reliance have pretty good speed but charges are too high..

So what else can I try ? Any specific plans/service ?

Thanks

EVDO depends on the network connectivity in your area. You might get lucky at your new place. Ask someone else in your area who has tried EVDO. I constantly get at least 90 to 120 kBps downloads from RS, and > 80kBps downloads on uTorrent.

Still given the pain that i went through, I am planning to keep BSNL EVDO as last resort..

Any other viable options... ?

Tata Indicom Photon promises speeds upto some 2-3 mbps but the monthly charges are bit high.

Even Reliance has similar plans for wireless USB dongle .

check out both of and see if you can get a demo somewhere. :)

No UL Plans for Tata Photon ??

& Read pretty pathetic reviews of Reliance Netconnect, especially in Mumbai...

Btw what are montly charges for BSNL EVDO and its speed..?

If at all I get BSNL EVDO (As Reliance Netconnect has the worst reviews), I am planning to get the USB on rent (200/- per month ). I did the same thing last time and i could leave EVDO after a month with less damage i.e 850/-..

In case of photon enquiry, Does anyone have Engineer ka no. directly ? or I need to call tollfree...

I dont think BSNL has any presence in Mumbai

Well i thought EVDO was being used in mumbai.. And AFAIK EVDO is introduced only by BSNL...

Any EVDO reviews of ppl from mumbai ?

Also then I should rule out Reliance Netconnect for sure...

Great.. now this wont be more confusing for sure :P

Any users who can give their feedback.. and possibly the area where they are located..

Hi I am using Reliance USB modem.
I stay @ malad and I get connection speed @ 3.1 mbps
And download speeds about 254 kbps for some torrents.
e.g Last night I downloaded a 1 gb movie in about 40 minutes. (wow)

My plan is 10 gb day + 10 gb night with a discount of rs. 200 every month.
Dont go for their 1st month free offer as it depends on their billing cycle and it might turn out to be free for your first 10 days usage only.

I am ok with this FUP. For occasional high data downloads. and good internet Chatting and browsing.
I play Age of empires 3 online on ESO and sometimes Team fortress 2.
But get kicked out of some servers due to some kind of lag. (read below)

Obviously you have to constanly check your data usage. and Plan according what you want to download.
If you want to go for reliance then, First ask them to come to your place and give you a demo.

The only problem that I am facing right now is the high ping status.
I have BingO it and will try some workaround tonight.
