Google’s Android One Program Is a Flop, Sales Way Behind Any Expectations

None of the nexus devices were runaway hits. But for the Google prefix, A1 was similar to nexus. Google publicly threw their weight behind it and assured all support to ensure internet connectivity (read Google search!) reaches all.
And, yes for a change Google spectacularly failed to (support) marketing effort of a product was publicly their own.

And, they may get away saying that they were not interested in making successful products, just showing other makers what can be done at reasonable price points ;)

The problem is not with google or anything it's with the people . If all people were educated about electronic technology those devices would have done very well .Apart from us sadly the mass market in India totally goes by the word of mouth and words of the store owners.

I am sure, out of all the pieces sold under android one campaign, most were bought by non-tech people or for non-tech people. Tech savvies have avoided this line of handsets.

One of my friends has the spice dream uno and its a fantastic phone at that price point

Call quality is very good, screen is fantastic, no lags in operating the phone its blazing fast, camera is good for outdoor shots in good light, big apps get automatically installed to memory card.

The only drawback would be the after sales support, but the advantage of spice, mmx etc is that any streetside mobile shop can repair them at a lower cost and faster than official service center

When you sell crappy hardware (Mediatek SoC) and the only USP is timely software updates, it is obviously going to fail!
