Google accounts asking for my dob

When I logged into my google account today it asked me to enter my dob. This is an account I have been using for about 15 years now.

To comply with some regulations? Is this for real required by Indian law or some made-up excuse by Google to extract information from me?

It is usually to meet minimum age requirements and is also used on other services that use Google login. However, India is not yet mentioned in the list of countries with minimum age requirements.

Not sure if anything has changed. However, if you used the account with a VPN from country with the requirement, then probably that would have triggered it as well.

My way of dealing with entities that seek DOB when it is none of their business, is to always use 1 April 1984 (Fool's day, and the year being a reference to *that* novel). Worked for me for years now - the only downside being I end up receiving a bunch of emails on 1st April every year.
