There are reports on reddit but no formal news that uBlock is being automatically disabled by Google on Chrome. They removed it from Extension store some time back, now they are disabling the users who have had it installed since before.

How does this affect you?

I have been a Firefox and Safari user for years now. It has strengthened my resolve to never use Chrome ever again.
 
It's to do with their Manifest v3 mandate which has been sometime in the making and now being put to practice.. any addons not meeting that criteria get disabled and removed.
If sticking to Chrome then either move to ublock origin lite or adguard.
PS : Does not impact me, as I moved to Librefox.

Meh for amateur users like us this is a big problem. Firefox I tried before, they never fixed the font problem. I mean compared to Chrome the fonts on Firefox was not sharp bit blurry like. Also, the sync between mobile and computer data with Chrome is easy. Whatever I browse on my PC is easily accessible on my mobile and vice versa. With Firefox now I have to use it on both the platforms for that. But if Firefox fixes the font/text scaling issues then definitely would return to them.

Why not use brave? As it is a chromium based browser also has a sync feature.Also, it block ads.

To be honest, I would now be able to more confidently install uBO lite on my relative's PC from now on.

Manifest v3 is a weird mix of security and advertising incentives from Google. But personally I can't imagine myself not using uBO in the future.
 
Switched to firefox, One thing i dont like though is you cannot share tabs with audio in google meet. Seems it is a chrome only feature.

I never had this issue. I have been using Firefox since 2005. What do you mean? Can you give an example?

Similarly, I gave up on Chrome completely (even on my phone) and switched entirely to Firefox.

Are you talking about containers that allow you to open a tab and browse a site without it tracking you outside of that tab? I tried LibreWolf before and it has that feature. I believe there’s an extension for regular Firefox called Facebook Container or something. I'm not sure if it works for other sites except Facebook.
 

Microsoft Edge disables UBlock Origin and other Manifest V2 Extensions​

Manifest V2 extensions from Chrome Web Store are being disabled in Edge Canary
The latest Microsoft Edge Canary has disabled Manifest V2 extensions installed from the Chrome Web Store, including uBlock Origin.

What happened?
After updating to the latest version of Edge Canary, we noticed a message stating:” 2 extensions were turned off. These extensions were no longer supported. Microsoft Edge recommends that you remove them.”
When attempting to manually enable the disabled UBO extension, Edge displayed another message: “Turn uBlock Origin on. This extension is no longer supported. Chrome recommends that you remove it instead.”

Microsoft pushes for Manifest V2 Extensions Phase out in Edge​

This suggests that Microsoft has begun applying restrictions on Manifest V2 extensions sourced from the Chrome Web Store.
However, Microsoft allows turn it on and use it, we don’t know how long. We can confirm that Microsoft Edge is no longer allowing the installation of Manifest V2 extensions, such as uBlock Origin, from the Chrome Web Store.
Interestingly, the uBlock Origin extension installed from the Edge Add-ons store is unaffected. We need to wait and see if this is a Chromium upstream change that affected Edge Canary or if it’s a bug.
The company has officially announced it will support Manifest v3, which is a chromium initiative for the extension ecosystem. Likely Edge will allow Manifest V2 extensions to be used by users from the Edge add-ons Store because Microsoft hasn’t specified a time for the transition to Manifest v3 extensions.
