Google has confirmed that they have not submitted a new google maps version to Apple

Executive Chairman of google, Eric Schmidt has confirmed that Google has not submitted a new version of the highly reputed Google Maps to Apple, and this is according to a report from the Reuters. Apple had launched it's own mapping service previously this month when it had rolled out it's new iOS upgade, iOS 6.

Although the new maps from Apple provide new fratures such as 3D flyover with interactive 3D view and voiced based data in certain places, it is being heavily criticised for inaccurate data and unreliability of data. It had taken Google a very long time to perfect it's map features such as public transit directions etc.

Eric Schmidt said "We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It's their call. I'm not doing any predictions. We want them to be our partner. We welcome that. I'm not going to speculate at all what they're going to do. They can answer that question as they see fit."

TBH I find RIMs new BB10 to be more tempting than the vague iOs and Iphone.

I'll be honest when I say that I have not completely followed up on BB10 but from the video I saw of the developer device, it looks like an early prototype of a Nokia Lumia phone - both software i.e. Windows phone and hardware. They have tried to take the best of all worlds and put it together.

- Slide up to unlock
- First screen with running apps that are in the shape of tiles. Functionality might be different but sure does like a Windows Phone homescreen.
- Slide right to see grid of icons.
- Slide from top for common settings.
- Slide left to see notifications.

Sure, there are some new features (like the right angle swipe) but can't see any big innovations here. But as we have seen recently, lack of innovations don't prevent sales of 5 million in a week. :|

All in all, good to have more competition. That is necessary to make it better for us buyers! :)
