Being touted by some websites as Apple TV (or may be only Airplay) competitor but looks like it is not.
Can stream few supported things from iPhone/android phone to TV. By itself the device has not functionality so one cannot use this as replacement of those cheapo android on stick things.
I believe this might be hacked to mirror entire phone screen to the TV and it will be an awesome device then.

Don`t think its in India market, compared to android stick prices it won`t be much appealing, I guess !

quick question to android stick users - is it worth (as media player, apps, games and 24x7 downloader)?

Yes. Currently it only supports streaming few supported services from internet. If it can get music streaming and also screen mirroring from a local device it would be a serious competitor to airplay. Until then its just a glorified streaming device which will be useful only in the US. But its pricing is pretty decent for what it does.

@vpraveenis

I guess it streams from smartphones and such devices and not from internet. Correct me if i am wrong.

From the diagram in the link here, it looks like everything is taken from the cloud and only UX control is from device to chromecast. But if you read the article below, it mentions that local streaming might be possible with a websocket protocol. So maybe it is possible, I dont know. We'll have to wait and see. But for youtube I think it directly streams from the internet... not from the device.

Is this device capable of working without the internet?

Edit: Another nice comparison between Airplay and Chromecast here on theverge.com

It has wifi but it is not housing full android from what i know. Probably no memory or anything. Just a device which will stream content from other devices.

Not true. Currently it can't even stream from other devices from what I have heard from people who are using it.
Let's say you have Google music app on your phone and it supports Chrome Cast. Then you can use that app from your phone to listen to music from the device Chrome Cast is connected to. The Chrome Cast will then use Internet and play the song straight from Google's servers.
Your phone is nothing but a remote. Similar to how you can watch Youtube on your Wi-Fi enable TVs by using their mobile app.
However once it gets rooted and devs develop some apps for it it will for sure be used for mirroring and much more. That is the benefit of it being based on Android.

@rdst_1 No. It is not based on android. Rather it's a barebone implementation of chromeOS. It's just like a browser window which can only stream content and nothing more. I dont remember the source, but will try to get it.

Its not based on android. Its based on simplified version of chrome OS.It can play content from cloud(movies, music) and supports some apps like youtube and pandora. It can also mirror the chrome browser from PC.Basically useful for people who watch a lot of stuff on their TVs or maybe have their best speakers connected to TV

Sorry. I only knew about the streaming directly from web and not from the device part.
I assumed it was based on Android. My bad. Not much useful in it's current stage for us Indians because of slow internet speeds.

I'm thinking: Connect wireless Xbox 360 controller to computer. Use chrome cast to stream HD game right to the TV. Use controller to play PC games on TV's large screen!

Above will be pretty useful if TV is another room from the computer - if somehow the wireless controller can connect to the PC as well with the rooms not being too far apart.

It cannot stream you PC screen.Only the chrome browser screen or music/video in the cloud.

Hmm. But if there was a product that could do that it would be pretty nice. For all the extra eye candy that PC gaming provides, we have to play it on our small monitors (unless you have the TV right next to your computer).
