We have just announced on the Official Google Blog that we will soon retire Google Reader (the actual date is July 1, 2013). We know Reader has a devoted following who will be very sad to see it go. We’re sad too.

There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.

To ensure a smooth transition, we’re providing a three-month sunset period so you have sufficient time to find an alternative feed-reading solution. If you want to retain your Reader data, including subscriptions, you can do so through Google Takeout.

Thank you again for using Reader as your RSS platform.

WTF !!
Its been my main source of information in every field since last many years. A tab always open in office pc/home pc plus also in Mob. And now it'll be gone. Sad sad. :(

Aww,

First Good Apps for Business & now Reader.

Whats wrong with Google ? Come on show some ads on reader but continue the services.

Looks like Google loves giving chances to other companies. FreeApps for business closed, Microsoft Outlook is rocking now.

Reader getting closed. I guess someone else will rise..

i was addicted to google reader for my daily feeds . there are many options but i am not sure which one comes closer to google reader it terms of features.

So it's dead :(

Luckily Mr. Reader (for iPad) has introduced Feedly support.

Any recommendations for Windows 7 based RSS readers that plan to offer syncing with Feedly?

I've shifted all my feeds to Feedly, but still holding on to Reader till last breath. It is still functioning as of now :)

i think they are proactively removing it before people start berating it, as it's not a niche product of its segment.

Finally, Rest in Peace Google Reader.

RIP my trusty Reader since 2007 (deleting you from my bookmark bar :( ). Been using GoodNows and Feedly since years ago but never consider to abandon Google Reader totally, but got to use to these two now.

I hope a decent Windows Desktop based option comes with Feedly Sync Support. Something like Reeder (OSX) will be purrfect.

Feedly is ok at max.

gReader is good for Android. Feedly extension on Chrome.

Need a good desktop client. Feeddemon is poor.
