I have a Samsung Galaxy S i9003. I am on Airtel and have put a GPRS pack. I received settings and i have saved them but i am unable to connect to the internet. I have complained many times and have tried everything including manually configuring the settings but still its not working. Finally the airtel guys told me it might be a handset problem.

I just want to know if there is anything i should try doing before i go to a service centre. I have checked all the basic settings under network etc.

It will be very grateful if any of you can help me out.

Insert another Sim and try to connect to Internet if it connect with another Sim then your Old Airtel has some Issues, So you need it to Replace

I had the same issue on my Galaxy R with failtel.

I had more than 3 gigs of 3G data lying unused because I couldn't access the net whatsoever.

I used to call them once in every three of days and even complained to a senior CC executive 2 times. Then after 15 days from first complaining the Internet started working.

Its surely an Airtel issue but do check with a spare SIM of another service provider to confirm.

thanks for the replies guys. i went to the service centre and got it rectified they said that they changed some settings in the phone.. it started working but again after just a day it has stopped working now.. could it be some software problem coz the techie was like if it doesnt work he would do a software upgrade

Hey buddy could you ask him about how he rectified it & what the issue actually was ?

i did ask the receptionist she just said they changed some settings and dint say anything further

She knows nothing buddy !

If you could get hold of the technician himself then he would have answered this query & that would have helped in understanding your problem better.

i tried but they wouldnt tell... they are so hesitant because next time we might not go to service centre

I had frequent disconnection from my 3G when I had de selected 'Data Roaming'. having selected it again, I have mo issues.

This was even when I was not roaming. You could try that?

i figured out a temporary solution. if i restart phone it works. so mostly must be some software issues i guess.

I think I have an idea to do the same without restarting, though not sure if it'll work.

How about switching your handset in to 'Flight Mode' and then back ?

Try it a couple of times and update here if it works.

This is a serious problem guys :

My analysis of the situation is that it only happens in the circles where Airtel has not won the license to operate 3G (like maharashtra) . Also, this will only happen in Phones which are 3G enabled.

I used a Nokia (candy bar phone) for ages and never faced any issue. But now on my 3G phone, internet keeps dropping frequently and also signal keeps dropping.

The issue is that where 3G is not used and Airtel does not have license it tries to switch to another network, like Idea incase of Idea.

I have taken this issue up with Airtel and have tried a lot to resolve it, with no progress

But in Chennai we do have 3G. Moreover my friend uses a GT i9000 and when he uses GPRS he gets the symbol E/H/3G randomly whereas i get only E.

I also get only the E symbol on my device when using GPRS but I have put my handset in 2G only mode so its logical for that to happen.

BTW did you try the above method ?

Check whether your sim 's gprs works in some other cell. If it works then its your phone's problem if not write a strong worded email to them. The guy who calls you back does actually know something technical.

There is also a dedicated technical line I guess try *567# or 12118.

Chances are you might even get a refund

if it was Airtel's fault. Just dont hesitate to argue with them.

It dint work on another phone too. But after visiting the service centre its working on my phone. I have to try calling them and asking for an extension in validity.

This issue of not getting the 3G/H/H+ mode when you enable data is also with DOCOMO and VODAFONE( may be bcoz they use FAILTEL's spectrum in Bangalore).

I get the network after i restart the phone.Switching between flight mode doesn't work.

Reasons :

1. May be network issues.

2.May be only on Android devices ( unless any other user with other OS comes up with same problem)
