GPS receivers - anybody??

Hi,
I wish to buy a GPS receiver for my car. I must confess that I'm a complete noob. Please suggest me possible combinations which are cheap and effective. Also is map for calcutta available?
I found these 2 products on ebay - Garmin Etrex (about 9 K) and Garmin GPS 72 (about 11.5 k). How are they? Anybody used them? any review?
