51-70k GPU purchase dilemma. 3060 Ti vs 3070 Ti vs 3080 Ti

Current rig:
CPU: 5800X
GPU: GTX 1650
Board: ASUS TUF Gaming B450
Memory: 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz.
Display : LG 32" 2K resolution 144Hz refresh rate display.
Requirement: 1-2 hour daily 2K 144Hz gaming (FPS, sim racing).

I am in a massive dilemma here. Need: 2K 144hz gaming and chatbot training



Gigabyte rtx 3080ti 12gb wind force 3x for 80k.
Zotac Rtx 3080 trinity 10gb Rs 70k
Zotac 3060 Ti for 36k
Other option it to go middle ground for 3070 Ti GDDR6X variant for 45k.

Heart says 3080 Ti. Brain says get 3070 Ti and upgrade to 4xxx after a year or two.

All this thanks to Nvidia going greedy with 4080. But then, with 4080, I do not want to use by B450 motherboard and I have to upgrade my 650W PSU as well. And if I have to upgrade my mobo, I will probably upgrade my CPU and as I go with 7xxx CPU, I end up with moving to DDR5. This is the worst time to upgrade!!!!!
 
3060Ti or 6700XT for 35k should be fine for now. Both have similar performance in most games with 3060Ti having perf advantage in RT (but RT takes a huge toll) whereas latter has more VRAM. Hardware Unboxed has a 50 game benchmark comparing these two, watch that.

3070Ti at 45k is ok-ish, but it really should have had 10GB VRAM. Also there's 6800XT at 57k, if you want something closer to 3080Ti in performance.

Rough ranking - 4K is more GPU intensive but AMD GPUs work better at lower resolution for some reason.

I'd rather say if you want to go all in future proof upgrade, hold up with your current gpu and buy 4080. I know its an overkill even for 2k high refresh rate gaming, but its just what i would have done to stay away from needing an upgrade for good 4-5 years. But if you can't wait, go for used 3060ti/3070 to save up some money and then upgrade later. I don't recommend going for new higher end cards for now.
 
You should not buy those cards at the prices you've quoted. I got the 2nd card on your list brand new for 60k in August so paying 70k now is a terrible idea.

That said, I got a 3080 Vulcan for a friend for 45k. So do think about a mid 2022 used card.

3xxx series price went up, thanks to 4080 series pricing.
 
One thing I can say is, if money isn't an issue, get the best. Don't think about brain, heart etc.
Sometimes little compromises later give trouble.

Do not buy a new GPU, get a used one. We have so many on the forum or you could put in the WTB Thread.

I had 3070Ti + 2600k and was getting 60+ frames in all games I played at 2k resolution. Paired with your CPU, I am sure you will get 80+ across all the games or could be more.
For me CPU was a huge bottlenext. The person I sold this GPU this had 12400F and the performance was 30 to 40 percent higher than what I was getting.

Yeah, money matters. If I buy a 3080, i have to change my PSU as well so that would be 10k extra. If I plan on 4xxx, I have to change my rig itself as I have B450 board. Dont want to overspend, given that I have a 2K display.

what's the issue with b450 board with RTX 4 series gpu?

It is not just about PCIe 3.
1. 4080 and 4090 are solid 4K cards. I do not have a 4K display. I have a 2K display. At 2k, my 5800X will quickly become a bottleneck. Also, I will not notice any difference between a 3xxx card and 4080/4090. Only way to know is if I turn on fps overlay counter. I do not want to do major upgrades as I am also looking to buy a home and I want save as much as I can and get 'exactly' what I want. Not more, not less.
2. I have ASUS TUF Gaming B450 ATX motherboard which is like a low midrange motherboard. I am concerned about capacitors overheating as 4080 or 4090 are solid high end cards. Imagine running a ML simulation for hours non stop where GPU takes majority of the load.
3. I am going to upgrade at the end of 2023. There are two paths. One is where I go pro with ML and complete move to cloud computing. In this case, I would get an Xbox or PS for kids and I will stick to current GPU. Second is where I drop ML plans. In such case, I will sell off entire desktop and get a MacBook (already have entire Apple ecosystem and my current Mac is from 2012).

It all depends on what you want to do right now, If its ML then go with 4080 else get a second hand 3070 for 25~30k and use it for an year then upgrade majority of the parts. You will get low performance for ML but will save for something MUCH important in life (a home).
If I were you then I would forget everything else and only concentrate on home because you don't buy them daily
