Graphic Cards GPU temps creeping up

I have a Sapphire X1800 GTO and have been using it the past 2.5 months. What I noticed was that the GPU temps (as stated by ATI Tool) have been steadily creeping up. Idle temps used to be around 53-55C and at load around 70C. They are now idle 60 and load 74 (just checked the ATI Tool log after an hour of Far Cry) In fact the idle temps were going even higher (around 62) but I changed the Fan Control properties in ATI Tool to make the fan spin up earlier (it usually kicks in around 65 C)

Is this normal? Though admittedly the temperature here in Bangalore has gone up a bit but I am still worried. Anybody have any idea about the safe temps for that card?

Also what can be done to cool the card?

The CPU (C2D 6300) temps strangely havent shown any rise. They still idle at around 39-40C.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

^^Wow same here.Its summer time :(

My X1950Pro started going to 70C load from 60C and 53C idle from 45 idle :(

My E6300 idles at 43 and goes to 50 load

I think for the GPU 80C is the danger time?

It's just March for chrissakes. If its like this in march I shudder to think how it will be in May-June :-[

Summer guys.

Even with my Water cooling, my load temps are up at 55C from 45-48C...

Pentium D ofcourse :P.

Can anything be done to cool just the graphics card? (apart from getting an extra fan for the cabby which I am planning to do anyway)

AS5 application possible?

shucks..my E6300 temps have gone up to 45C from 40C(in dec-jan).. well, i stay in mumbai and we know, how it is at this time in mumbai.. but still, seeing the poor thing burn is a bit unnerving.. anyways help is on the way...the saviour, my new AC, is gonna arrive tomorrow... maybe, i'll be able to restore the golden 37C once again for my C2D...:)

Yeah blowing AC air directly onto cabby does the trick :P

But sadly i have a split AC and not the wall AC :(

GPU idle temp rose from 57C to 60C & load temp rose from 77C to 80C here

Luckily my AC saves me :hap2:

dust in my GPU fins had increased my GPU idle & load temps by 8C in January :@

so check for dust too

ohhh my god ?? is 80 C really a danger time...den i am really ..****up cauz..my 6600 gt..goes upto 80-85 c on load while playing NFS carob while its 43-50 idle...even on stock and oc'ed the temps are almost same.

.there is no artefacts or anything in da game...but if i overclock it to 535/975 from 500/900 there are sometimes greenish patches in between at 85+ temp.

8800GTS @80C load

go figure :P

cool your GPU asap

Its getting hot enough to warrant an AC even here in Bangalore, something which I didnt think possible.

Well, you guys are lucky compared to me. My house plan is quite bad. My room is on west and the windows are facing west too. The cool breeze from east never enters my room and top it, my room is the only room on the first floor. So by the time sun rises in morning and sets in evening, it tries to toast all the four walls from bottom to the top, which has the effect of me sitting in Sahara desert. I have a fan and a cooler in my room. Fan starts circulating hot air in half an hour and cooler instead of making my room cool, itself becomes hot :D and it is supposed to be a good cooler if you go by brand names :ohyeah: I could never do down the OC path just coz of this conditions

@UDIT .... I was getting idle temps of around 65C and now I get 55C after adding 2 fans - one 120mm in front blowing air over the GFX card and a 60mm outside the case sucking air out of the case... each fan made a difference of 5C !!! I dont think I now need to open the card and change heat sink compound to AS5 .... 55C idle is good temp for a 8800 GTS ??? ....pics....

thanks a lot Eazy Sir

I have a front fan blowing on it but sadly i cannot add a 40mm+ in the rear area

@Eazy: That's a pretty tight fit there between your GPU and the 120 mm fan.. :bleh:

BTW nice pics. I am thinking of doing something like that..

YUP.. <sigh> ... the power connector on the card is getting slight pressure from the fan :( but if I remove this fan then the temperatures get too high ... the back 60mm fan does not help
much if the 120mm fan is removed :( The 120mm fan is a slow Antec case fan so not much vibrations from it.

@Udit .... you are going to like this ... the Thermalright HR-03 PLUS ... I was going to buy one till I saw this picture ... the darn HSF occupies 6 SLOTS !!!! ... count them 1-2-3-4-5-6 SLOTS !!!!! .... :O :O

:O :O :O :O :O :O

thats too huge

but thats with a 120x38mm with 2 x 92x25mm fans it will occupy 4 mostly

anyways that cooler is only needed if you OC the card
