Is it true that you need a special graphic card for CAD applications ( AutoCAD and likes ) ??
My friend has been told that normal graphics cards ( nVidia, ATi etc) dont give desired performance. And there is this Maxtor ( maybe??) cards that have half the RAM but cost double, that are supposed to give better performance.

Can u guide me plz??
Also suggest me any good graphic card in range of 3000 to 5000 for the mentioned applicaion area.

There are special GFX cards for CAD applications. But you dont have to buy those expensive cards. Buy the generic gaming version and flash it with its brother BIOS. And there you go.

Here is the link to such a conversion guide.

Also search over google. You will get lots of them , like Geforce to Quadros or Radeons to Fire GLs.

It depends on what kind of work you intend to do on CAD.
If there is Heavy 3D Rendering to be done then you need a powerful GPU and also an equally powerful system.
But if you are gonna do normal stuff then i guess a decent grafix card is not at all bad.

For example in my office we use CAD to design structures for our Sheds and it does not involve any kind of heavy rendering and we use it on a Nforce 1 based system which has onboard GF2.

So basically your need will determine the card you will be needing
For starters Nvidia Quadro Are one of the Best Professional Grafix Chips

More then a gfx system, you will need loads of RAM, also the Quadro and the Fire GL's are expensive. As Darky perfectly summarised its per your usage.
