Graphic Cards Graphic Card dilemma

Hey Folks

Im looking for a GPU and am looking to buy one in 2-3 weeks time. I need a GPU which can play upcoming games like Dragon Age II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier etc. at very high settings on my 1920x1080 G2420 Monitor.

My Budget is maximum 12k but it'd be better if I can save some money so the lesser the better, but my requirements should be met.

I'm considering 6850/6870. Cant buy 6870 at the current price but maybe the price will come down in a 2-3 weeks time. Can a 6850 suffice my needs?

U can get a 6850 and unlock it to 6870, that will me most vfm:p

From where did u get this info? HD6850 doesn't unlock into HD6870...

@Memphis

for 12k u can grab a Zotac GTX460 AMP Edition which performs like HD6870... :)

sell the 5770 for 6k and investment some money for spending 560 gtx or 6950 unlock to 6970 so u can get more fps rate at 1080p :)

then i guess 6850 or if you can increase your budget 6870 are your options

no nVidia offering in this price range is worth going for

I'm getting the HD6850 at 9.7k but the things is i wont be using it for around two weeks more. Should I wait teh two weeks in hope of getting it at a lower price or should I go for it now itself?

Why buy now when you dont need it for another two weeks :S If at all there is a change is pricing it will decrease and not increase. So no harm in waiting if you dont need it.

The 9.7k price was on the "Deal of the Day" from Lynx so maybe I thought after some later time if the prices don't fall and the price increases from 9.7 I'll be at a loss but anyways yeah you have a point, I should only buy it when I'll actually use it. The worst case scenario would be that I'd have to pay 100-200 more for it but chances of that happening are very slim.

I dont have the money for either :(

And 5950 or 6950?

HD6870 is currently selling at a very ridiculous price... it shud sell here in india around 11 to 12k... So i wud suggest u to wait for the HD6870 price to come down if thats the only card u r eyeing for...And as aman suggested dont go for anything which is inferior to HD6950 1GB/GTX560... :)

hey i think 6850 is a damn worthy upgrade for the price you pay.
the thing is, u pay 40% more for getting a 6870 over a 6850, and for that u get a 20% performance hike.. :cool2:
Do the math, 6850 is well worth your money.
And as per your rig, i think you should be able to play the games in high settings.
and if u happen to crossfire 2 6850's, the performance you get will give the Nvidia 580GTX run for money...
Happy Gaming! :cool2:
