I just figured out how to open my Inspiron531s desktop. So willing to take the next step and change my graphic card to play some quality new releases. This is my current system config. The card is 256MB and not 1GB as the screen-shot shows.

Please suggest a good card within 3k. Also if the card does not require any change in PSU, that's the icing on the cake.

^^What other slot do you think the existing card fits into?

I'm sure the PC has a PCI-Ex 16x slot but then your choice's limited to low profile cards - not the ones that retail in the market. Dell employs the OEM to have the cards tailor-made to fit these slim enclosures.

I'm not sure if you get cards with low-profile brackets in the market.

I actually haven't removed the card to check whether it gets inserted into the another slot. I just want to remove this card and replace it with a new one completely. As Gannu has mentioned I think my choice is limited to low-profile cards only.

Neo, check out cards like these:

Newegg.com - Galaxy 96GFF6HVDCXX GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Newegg.com - HIS H435F512HDLP Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

These should fit your PC without a hitch. :)

Hey, some cards could do with a bit of DIY as well. Like this one Shripad's reviewed. Notiuce the VGA connector - it could be removed. Just take out the empty bracket from one of the slots of your enclosure and cut the hole accurately (from an engineering shop!) after marking it, and screw the DVI connector and forget about the other connector. :)

His choice is pretty much limited to HD4650 ( powercolor has low profile model ) or 9600GT low profile model from Zotac and Galaxy.

Nothing else will fit that case.

Nope, the existing PSU should be enough. The stock PSU onboard Dell and HP systems are generally reliable. :)

sorry for hijacking but what's meant by low profile?

I think he means the "Green Edition Cards". Those cards do not require a power connector. So that they can run even on power supplies that do not have a PCI E connector.

Edit: I was replying to crvinay_4u

Nope, I didnt mean green edition cards.

Low profile cards are half the height of normal cards and hence and fit in most mATX and mini ITX cabinets.

The cards I mentioned are not that power hungry and wont have any problems running off the power supply of these systems.

^^yes there's a 9600GT LPLP(lowprofilelowpower) but it's not available in India

@ OP, go for the Sapphire HD4550 LP it's the best bet for ur config and PSU...
