I have an ati 4350 and want to buy one gfx within 12-13k.
My psu is corsair vx 450
My vendor quoted
Powercolor ati 4870 512mb @ 8.5k +tax
Powercolor ati 4890 512mb @ 11.5k +tax
Difference between powercolor,sapphire,palit,msi ?
If i take 4890 now will it last me till Q2 2011 @ 1920x1200 ?
Or Should i jump for dx11 bandwagon with ati 5770 ?

hi there,

for the budget what u have (12-13k) u can easily get a gtx 275 or 4890 which r very good cards and should last for a while..........u also can have a look at 5770 card with the dx 11 feature which should make ur system future proof......(even though gtx 275 and 4890 r much faster).....but u have also mentioned tht u would not upgrade till 2011 Q2 and also u would game at 1920 X1200......bro frankly speaking i have no clue what future has to offer .....but considering next years excellent announced line ups (in terms of graphics)... it would be safer for u to go with a 5850 .......considering the resolution at which game.I know its out of ur budget but i would suggest u to save some more and get one of these beauties (5850's):hap2:

i am ready to compromise with medium settings but with 1920x1200 resolution
hd 5850 wud never be given to me unless it falls under 11k which wont happen till late 2010 or 2011 .
By 2011 q2 i will buy dx11 mainstream

yea dude, best bet right now for you seems to be 4890 only.

But there is a good chance the price of 5850 might come down after nVidia's gt300 comes out. But that would depend entirely on how nVidia price their product. They usually are not known for aggressively pricing their products (atleast I dont think so). Anyways there is no release date for it so no point waiting.

I feel 4890 should easily last till 2011. But wait for the experts' advice, dont take it from me :)

+1 for 4890

it ll easily do 1920*1200

most games like batman, UT3, farcry2, shift easily runs on 1080p with almost max setings on my 4870 512 MB. 4890 shud easily pull it through on every games except crysis and GTA4 at max and 1080.

Bot much gonna change in one year time and you can safely go for 4890.

The 5770 is pretty close to the 4870 1GB in terms of performance, and will probably get closer still as drivers mature a bit more, and so i think it should let you run most games at 1080p to acceptable levels of detail/quality, since the latter is very much capable of the same.
I think the 5770 will serve you well for most games if you don't stray beyond 1920 x 1080. Then again, its probably smarter to wait for prices to drop a bit before going DX11.
If you are considering a 5850 in a few months, it might be a good idea to get a used 4870 1GB instead of a new 4890. You shouldn't miss much.

Get Sapphire 4870 1GB or even better is an 4890 for true graphics horse power !5770 underperforms when compared to 4870, Especially when AA & other eyecandy feautres are enabled, as it is bottlenecked by its 128Bit Memory as against the 256 Bit of 4870/4890.

Again if you are looking for feautres like DX 11,Eyefinity,lowerpower consumption but do not mind slighlty lower performance then go for 5770!

I wud anyday opt for a 4890 ober a 4870 1GB. Price diff is just 1k. Even the 4890 stock clocks are on par with the max oc potential of a 4870. Further more, the 4890 oc like hell compared to 4870.

Check for reviews, where many have took 4890 clocks to 1Ghz+ on core and 4.8~5ghz on memory.

Also power consumption of 4890 is much lower in idle state and can save lot of power.

With 4890 at 11.5k, GTX 260 isnt a good vfm card at 10.5~11k.

Guys some opinions on powercolor vs palit vs msi vs sapphire please !
palit has quit from production of ati cards so pls stay away from them just my opinion but saphhire > msi > powercolor , try to get sapphire or msi as much possible bcoz they have 3 yrs warranty whereas powercolor one has 2 yrs.
