The GTO2 got fried due to PSU not upto recommended level. :ashamed: yeah, my ignorance! .. Problem is, the card is from the U.S.
So can anyone tell me (adrress) where could i get it repaired in India? ..

MY Power Supply: Antec Sonata 380w True power .. Recommended 450w for the CARD! .. Anyways How do i go about repairing it, if ever it can be repaired .. that to in a decent costing! Plz lemme know ..

can u see the physical damage on the card?

Anyway there could be 100 reasons for the card getting fried and repairing it locally will be huge issue as there is no official repair center for the ATI card that I know of here. Most of the busted ATI cards gets replaced and not repaired here.

If there is a visible damage on some SMD components then maybe with the help of few people who own X1800 series card here or on XS , those can be replaced. but still no guarantee. This is the risk that you take when u import GPUs or any other part for that matter.

Anyway do post if you can see some damage. And what are the symptoms. Is it powering on? showing something on screen, or nothing?

My friend got it from newegg last year in AUG while he was coming back to India .. but will they do something about it if i manage to send it back to the US? .. I dunno how the website works ..
BUT are we sure that it cant be repaired in India, even if i pay for the repairs?

i don think in-depth repairs are done.....things like fans and stuff are replaced, but as u said, if it is fried it will be difficult.......how much warranty is left ??? if any is left, ull have to send it to a mail-in location in US and get it RMAed ....but ull have to bear all shipping and handling costs ........

dammmmm.........posted late! :( my neighbour is leaving for USA in 2 hrs. best part is he is coming back next saturday as well .......would have tried some luck asking him to take it n stuff...but too late now....and yes as others mentioned....havent heard anyone here repairing GPU's....replacement is the only option.

Alrite, thanks for the info guys. I think i'll send it to US and try my luck... Will update here if it gets repaired/replaced ..
^^ Funky, no symptoms! The moment i saw smoke within 5 seconds of booting up my system i powered off everything and removed the card. HAven't had the courage to put it back in and see what happens, lest it burns up even more! ..
^^ Thanks for the concern Hanzy ..

[OT] I have few questions here. What was the PSU rating? Whats the brand of PSU? Coz i always thought if the PSU is not upto the recommended level, the max that can happen is the PSU will burn out or the system will keep shutting down whenever the gfx card draws more power (like what heppened with my 6800XT and a cheap 350 W PSU) Never knew that the system will smoke and gfx card will get burnt [/OT]

Exactly, when I had a cheap 300W powering my old old rig and I put in the 9800PRO, the system kept on restarting and finally the PSU blew. Nothing happened to the other parts what-so-ever. I went ahead and got a PowGen (or something similar) 400W and the system booted and worked just fine.

Yeah, so a gfx card burning coz of a under rated PSU that too the ones like Antec TP 380W is very weird. R u sure that it is the PSU that caused the problem?

same exp here..
put x1800xt with my system on Intel crappy 300W and the movement i start the system psu just blasted. then i replaced it with Zeb platinum 550W and it was smooth. r u sure that smoke was from card.... it can be something else also...
better try that card at somebody else system where good psu is there....

i have ask u only one thing are sure that ur gpu is gone?
I think it might psu u gave smoke.
i say u do one thing remove gpu and and start pc and see and try that gpu at friends house who bigger power psu like 450w or 500w

One fine day, my friend didnt plug in the power connector on his AGP 6600GT.

The system booted fine, but after getting into windows, there was a message from the nvidia driver that the power connector was not plugged in.

If ATi cards used less power during startup, then this problem would not have occured.
