GTA 3 problem on XP.

prabs

Skilled
I recently installed the game on XP SP2. And I can normally play the game but when I change the resolution and press enter or return the game hangs and if I press esc I get the error that it can't read from mem location 0x02322010 press ok to quit or cancel to debug. The same thing happens while quitting the game. Otherwise the game runs well but still at 640x480x16  . I've already completed this game once when I had Win 98. I would like to play this game again. I downloaded the XP patch from Rockstar Games but that didn't solve my problem.
Please Help.

It would be nice if u could post ur sys specs!!

And new drivers were launched for bioshock by Nvidia!!Try them

Try patching as Ero-Sannin said.

I don't think nvidia will launch any drivers for 5200 fx so that it can play bioshock.
My rig is:
Intel Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
1 Gb Ram Trascend
Xfx 5200 fx 256 mb vram
1 dvd writer (Sony) & 1 cd writer (Samsung)
1 IDE HDD 40 gb (seagate)
1 SATA HDD 250 gb (seagate)
OS: Win Xp SP2

The game used to run perfectly on my old rig:
P4 1.9 Ghz
256 mb RAM
onboard intel 845 GV mdmx
Windows 98SE

It also used to run when I had Win XP SP 1 on my current rig.
I've had to switch to service pack 1 'cause the engineer who provides me with service no longer installs service pack 1.

Have you tried running in compatibility mode? It might run like a dog, but run it will. I run it with full texture mods, real GTA and eyecandy at 1600x1200 on a 6800GT.

But I have SP1, so what do I know?

It used to run perfectly on SP1 no compatibility reqd at all. Unfortunately all of my friends using XP SP 1 can play the game but those having SP 2 are having similar problems. All I can do is say,"You are playing it now I've already played and complted the game." But, I just came to know that in the third city we can actually fly a dodo plane. That is why I want to play the game again.

well u can fly the dodo in the airports end in da sea near the casino area...u hav to go there in a mission for blowing off a plane and collecting sum stuff.......:D

did you try what i said something the most complex issues are solved by just simple reinstalling or cleaning

I forrmatted my system today. Installed all the drivers and then installed the game. I use gamecopyworld for cracks. I first used the back up cd crack faced the same problem. Then I downloaded and used the no cd crack by copying all the audio files. And I faced the same problem  . The problem still remains the same I can play the game but not change the resolution or any other game settings and quit without getting an error.

Try http://gta3.net it was the greatest gta3 site ever existed when the game was released but i don't know where it stands now as the series evolved i lost grip of GTA3 :( (Try the affiliate sites there, who knows you might dig something out !)

gamecopyworld.com is good to crack try the moded exe from there... the error ur getting is sort of memory malfunction and its usually caused by bad programing in the .exe !

If you have any custom mods, car's ,etc installed then try removing it !

Update your directX,

Update your card driver,

Hope it helps

GTA3.COM - Please Do Not Walk On The Grass
Didn't find any thing that could solve my problem out there.
Here is what I did today. Borrowed a friend's Hynix 512 mb DDR RAM. Installed the game. Installed the patch from rockstar. Started the game and the same dumb error.

What to do? Can it be because of XP. Can this game be played using virtual OS.

@whoru007 after the logos an introductory video starts. This video uses video codecs on your system. In my case I had upgraded to k-lite mega pack from K-lite 2.76 due to this after the logos the game jumped out of the game to ask permission for the codec to be used. Once that was done and set to 'never ask again' it hasn't bothered me again.
Try the following:
Press Enter after the logos goes away (you will hear someone tapping on a keyboard which means is just abt to start). This will skip the intro and directly take you to the game.

Else

Install the latest K-lite codec. Also Try combined community codec if you don't want to use K-lite or if it doesn't work with K-lite. (Remember you can keep only one of the above mentioned codecs on your system).

I am not sure if this trick will work or not but definitely worth a try.
Hey Guys what abt my problem     ?
