Is your PC capable of smoothly running Rockstar's latest? Today, you can find out, as Rockstar has finally released the game's system requirements ahead of a now delayed 24 March release.

Here's what Rockstar says you'll need to enjoy nu-GTA's brand of violence and mayhem:

---------Minimum Specs :

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
---------Recommended Specs :

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
  • Memory: 8GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
Those are some extremely light minimum specs, which is nice to see. And if you were ever unsure as to how big a game it is, that 65GB hard drive requirement should leave you in no doubt.

This PC release will bring all the benefits of the most recent PS4 and Xbox One versions. That includes the first-person mode and an expanded soundtrack, and, exclusively for the PC version, native 4K support. Just a shame that we've now two more months to wait.

We've spent a long time waiting for GTA 5. So long that we've compiled a list of mods we'd love to see when it comes out. One thing's for sure, GTA 5 will be best on PC.

So go ahead, save money and start upgrading...;)

I am not so sure about the GPU mentioned in the recommended specs.

For me a recommended spec means that a user should be able to run a game with at least 75% of best possible experience offered by it in terms of graphics.

At present, I would stay that would be 1080p and many of the key settings on maximum or close to it and delivering at least 40 FPS on average and not going below 30 FPS.

If I remember right, Even GTA 4 required a graphics card with 2 GB memory just using the higher quality textures. Unless GTA V is optimized like crazy, It seems to me that it will be a tall task for a card like GTX660 to manage.

^^ Why is that a main question? People who want to buy it will buy it and people who want to pirate will do that anyway.

Many in India seem to pirate just for the thrill of it. I have seen people spend more time and money on pirating a game than they would have had to if they bought it legitimately. Even GTA 4 PC version was available for 499 and god know how many people still decided to download a pirated copy of that massive game on slow internet speeds.

Unlike some years ago, it seems most of the game distributors have realized that even offering the PC games at lower price points for markets like India in the hope of reduced piracy is just a waste like throwing pearls before swine and have since raised prices. While the prices are still not always close to the $50 standard used in US, gone are the days when we could get brand new AAA titles for Rs 499, 699 or 999.

Main question is how many will buy the game and how many will download it.

If they end up using the denuvo drm, the second option won't be possible.

P.S I'll be buying the game and i know at least 5 other people who will.

^^ GTA 5 is apparently not going to use that DRM as per Denuvo themselves. That rumor came out because Denovo advertised Rockstar in the list of companies they worked with its apparently based on the fact that Rockstar used Denuvo's predecessor Secure ROM for GTA 4 rather than GTA 5. In any case, considering that Dragon Age Inquisition which uses Denuvo has been cracked, its a matter of time before other games using this DRM would be cracked.

There exists a DRM that cannot be cracked? DRM will & always has been a PITA for genuine buyers and not for pirates.

^^ Not necessarily. At least, I haven't really encountered any major technical issues in a legit game just because of use of any DRM solution. But yes, its often an inconvenience to have restrictions like having an always on Internet connection or having to put DVD in drive,

In any case, piracy preventions systems like Denuvo are a pain for pirates. Denuvo themselves claim that their software is not DRM, but just anti-tamper technology.

So far, I think only two games with Denuvo have been pirated and that too after a long time.

Good to hear, it did cause a lot of issues for legit buyers for Lords of the fallen. As for getting cracked afaik there still isn't one out for Lords of the fallen and Fifa 15 which use Denuvo, maybe they got lucky with DA:I.

True that, i've had a terrible time with UPlay and GFWL in the past. And this newer trend of always online is even worse on our awesome internet connections.

^^ I have legit version of both Lords of Fallen (steam) and Dragon Age Inquisition (origin) both of which use Denuvo and haven't faced any issues with either. Maybe some others were less lucky.
