I do not think you can register *any* game to steam. GAT IV retail never had steam version in it. Only those games which are in DVD; but use steam can be activated through steam.
I personally registered my copy of Unreal Tournament 3 retail and Supreme Commander Gold Edition retail to Steam last week. GTA IV is on that list as well, but the CD key is not accepted yet. Maybe when they remove GFWL it will be.

Ohk, What I meant was that my GTA IV retail copy was not a steam version (unlike Mafia 2 retail disk; which is a steam game on disk). I have to check my key to see if it is eligible for registration.
No, none of the retail copies of GTA IV use Steamworks. But they recently added GTA IV to that list, but I guess it's a problem with GFWL still being the DRM for GTA IV.
