Hi Guys,

I have a particular issue, that my TV shows no display when I connect it via the HDMI cable directly !!! ie HDMI to HDMI. ( I Have the gtx 580 with a native HDMI port )

If I connect it using the DVI to HDMI adapter everything works fine. I can get the display @ 1080p no issues. But when it is connected directly from the HDMI port I get a blank display, or NO Signal is displayed on the TV.

I want to use the HDMI audio feature. And also would like to get the display directly form the HDMI port instead of suing the adapter. I have looked around and searched and came up with nothing. Some other forums are pointing me on getting a better HDMI cable but I am not sure if this will fix the issue.

And yes my TV is FullHD with 1080p with full 60Hz, PS3 everything works fine. I hate to say it but the ATI cards I used before worked like a charm.

I have tried 266, 270 and now the 275 the issue is persistent on all 3 versions.

Someone please sort this mess out I am now left clueless, I have tried everything that I could think of..various settings etc but I get no display form the HDMI port directly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,

1. Cable is very often the issue, even if it works with the PS3, not really necessary that it will work with the TV
2. Have you connected the SPDIF from the motherboard to the GFX Card? If not, you will not get Audio.
3. If you have done #2, then you can still use a DVI-HDMI dongle and connect.
4. Can you try connecting to the TV with a friends laptop over HDMI? This will verify the TV part of things.
5. Is the TV set to auto detect the input & resolution? this may not be in the standard menu's, you will need to find the advanced settings menu (usually hidden) for your TV.

I use a 9600 GT with a DVI-HDMI - 30 Ft long cable - LG Full HD 32" and it works fine. Only, my laptop to the TV does not work with all HDMI cables.

There should be some settings in the Forceware driver control panel, which tells the GPU that you are putting the signal to an LCD device. Try playing with that.

Could be but it is working fine with the Adapter so why should that be an issue, and is also working fine with ATI cards.

2. Have you connected the SPDIF from the motherboard to the GFX Card? If not, you will not get Audio.

???? Why would I have to do that, doesn't the GTX have its own audio device, IMO it does.... honestly forget the audio, I just wanna get the HDMI to HDMI working first.

3. If you have done #2, then you can still use a DVI-HDMI dongle and connect.

No I can't the HDMI to DVI dongle only converts Video and does not pass thru the Audio.

4. Can you try connecting to the TV with a friends laptop over HDMI? This will verify the TV part of things.

The TV works fine with an older ATI card directly with the same cable in the same computer, dont have to check with a lap top as I am sure that too works.

5. Is the TV set to auto detect the input & resolution? this may not be in the standard menu's, you will need to find the advanced settings menu (usually hidden) for your TV.

I have looked for it, yes it does auto Detect, it detects everything using ATI card, but not with this GTX. :(

The main issue is not about audio, m using dedicated Audio device and AMP for it, I just wanna get rid of the stupid converter and use only the HDMI via the HDMI port just because it is capable of doing and which is how it should be in the first place.

OK, but really I cant....cause once I plug the cable directly I get nothing on the screen so I can't change anything. I did play with it though when I had an extra CRT and tried dual display, but then also had no display on the TV.

Note: everything works fine, on the display front if I use the DVI adapter. Is the DVI adapter changing something we dont know. Like the Hz or something? I don't know.

Also I have read something about a cat1 and cat 2 type of cable for HDMI and that the CAT 1 cant transfer 1080p@60Hz, but dont the ATI GPU's give this output as well....? What about the PS3 or the xbox?

ALSO:

Although no maximum length for a HDMI cable is specified, signal attenuation (dependent on the cable's construction quality and conducting materials) limits usable lengths in practice.[58] HDMI 1.3 defines two cable categories: Category 1-certified cables, which have been tested at 74.5 MHz (which would include resolutions such as 720p60 and 1080i60), and Category 2-certified cables, which have been tested at 340 MHz (which would include resolutions such as 1080p60 and 2160p30).[55][59][60] Category 1 HDMI cables are to be marketed as "Standard" and Category 2 HDMI cables as "High Speed".[1] This labeling guideline for HDMI cables went into effect on October 17, 2008.

Is it a cable issue....thats the only thing I can think off......

Yes it does but that on the TV is only for the Display settings and reducing Input Lag.

and as for http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1579804

I have read that post like 3 times or so, and I guess that is the only solution....

I spoke to a few and looked around I think I need that HDMI 1.4 spec cable nothing else would supposedly work.

I will collect one on my way home and post in a few hours hope it work.

???? Why would I have to do that, doesn't the GTX have its own audio device, IMO it does.... honestly forget the audio, I just wanna get the HDMI to HDMI working first. - Sorry to say, but Sound Input to HDMI requires the SPDIF to be connected if the GFX card has a SPDIF input on it (2 Pin). From what I remember the ATI cards have their own audio device. Not seen in Nvidia so far myself.

No I can't the HDMI to DVI dongle only converts Video and does not pass thru the Audio.
Again - the DVI output ports on GFX cards support audio - it is the DVI - HDMI dongle that must also support this so that the HDMI cable carries the digital audio signal.

Could you post a PIC of your Cards Board front side?

It seems you have got CAT 1 type cable which supports 720p @ 60MHz and 1080i @ 60Mhz. If your monitor is on native resolution (1080p), try bump down resolution to 720p or 1080i via Nvidia control panel and report back.

^^ Dude how can I do that when I can't see the display!!!!!?????

And no that did not work when I tried the Dual Monitor setup.....

What I don't understand is why does the older cable work with ATI and not with the GTX 580!!!?? Unless ATi is natively giving out only 30Hz or 24hz

So much for all HDMI cables being equal....Guess they are not.

Could you post a PIC of your Cards Board front side?

What do you wanna see....any review site of the ASUS GTX 580 DirectCU2 should have it.....

There are no Audio inputes or whatever if you are looking at and there are DVI and HDMI and not mini HDMI....

NOTE: When I tried for dual display this TV was being detacted by nVidia Forceware....I remember that...but i did try various res. like 720p and even 1080p with 30Hz....nothing worked.

Yes it does....Both ways....via the adapter and also with the HDMI cable only (Confirmed this when i had another CRT )

Got a new cable 1.4a but nothing yet.

UPDATE: Fixed....

OK yes the new cable is working fine...Its a HDMI High Speed with Ethernet.

...but honestly I don't know now if was the cable at all.....

Could be the way the GTX is sitting in the 800D...if someone can guess what I mean....

But I will try it out again with the older cable and revert....now m going to bed.

Good Night.

Alright... could you please troubleshoot exactly what is at play here? If its the cable or if its something else. I am getting a GTX 580 and will output it at times to my 42" LED. So if I have any issues, I know exactly what is wrong. Thanks :)

^^ it is the cable m quite sure....just get a High Speed cable....

Not all HDMI cables are created equal, as apposed to the popular belief.

There are 4 major types in India all available (...leaving the HDMI Automotive ) even at croma for about 1000-2500/-
I got one for about 1400/-

The 4 types are:
  • Standard HDMI Cable
The Standard HDMI cable is designed to handle most home applications, and is tested to reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video – the HD resolutions that are commonly associated with cable and satellite television, digital broadcast HD, and upscaling DVD players.
  • Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet
This cable type offers the same baseline performance as the Standard HDMI Cable shown above (720p or 1080i video resolution), plus an additional, dedicated data channel, known as the HDMI Ethernet Channel, for device networking. HDMI Ethernet Channel functionality is only available if both linked devices are HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled.
  • High Speed HDMI Cable
The High Speed HDMI cable is designed and tested to handle video resolutions of 1080p and beyond, including advanced display technologies such as 4K, 3D, and Deep Color. If you are using any of these technologies, or if you are connecting your 1080p display to a 1080p content source, such as a Blu-ray Disc player, this is the recommended cable.
  • High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet
This cable type offers the same baseline performance as the High Speed HDMI Cable shown above (1080p video resolution and beyond), plus an additional, dedicated data channel, known as the HDMI Ethernet Channel, for device networking. HDMI Ethernet Channel functionality is only available if both linked devices are HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled.

Any particular brand? I hope you didn't buy a Monster cable. I feel they are complete rip-offs charging a bomb for even standard HDMI cables.

I bought Croma brand ...lol...Though would have bought the Monster if I saw that first but Croma didn't have 'em.

My AV guy did but he asked for 2500+ for it, luckily I was near Croma and thought of dropping in before I went to the AV guy and I got the cable I needed there.....

They were for like 1400/- but look of very good quality and I must say they really are nice.

A Thick Flat Cable.
