Graphic Cards gtx 590 or hd6990 which one sould i go for???

sadly(for me) you should go for the hd 6990 because it has no overheating issues especially while oc'ing and because of all the various issues the world has found with the gtx 590.even if you overlook all these issues and have faith in nvidia(as i have),still the gtx 590 is not performing better than the hd 6990 and sometimes it is even performing slower.so,getting a hd 6990 is really a no brainer.(how i wanted the gtx 590 to outperform the hd 6990 and that too with efficiency)

.

Correct me if i am wrong but isn't the SLI setup of GTX 580 more powerful than both 6990 and 590? How will it be an upgrade then? :S

going for the hd 6990 is all round better and at some places it is even selling around 100 $ less than the gtx 590.as i said going for the hd 6990 is a no brainer.

@faraz the op didnt ask about the increase in performance of the gtx 590 or the hd 6990 over the sli setup of gtx 580.and going for the gtx 590 or the hd 6990 gives you the monstrous option of doing a quad sli of two gtx 590s or hd 6990.now thats what i am talking about!

my vote for amd hd 6990

@overlord only possible explanation can be the huge frame buffer(maybe helping in future games like crysis 3 hehe)and because you can quad sli and make the fastest rig money can buy(monstrous).

NONE!!!

its not worth going for any of 'em from your current SLI setup!!!

wait another 6 months or so & new cards are going to be released anyway!

All of these options are totally and utterly overkill on your 1920x1080 monitor. Even a single GTX 580 is overkill for most games...

Neither IMO. Other than the fact that you get 2 GPU's in a single card, there is nothing in favor of these cards. HD6990 is somewhat alright, but considering how that card can go above the PCI-E power limits and how noisy a fan they had to use, I wouldn't think it is a such a stable card to use unless you have the best of power supplies. GTX590 is not even worth considering how even review samples have burnt down in several instances. The cost of either of these cards in India doesn't help either.

IMO, GTX580 SLI > HD6970CF/GTX570 SLI > HD6990/GTX590 > GTX580 > HD6970/GTX570.

Considering HD6970CF/GTX570 SLI can be had for 42k, neither of these Dual GPU cards deserve more than 36k and in the end even if it is 36k, I would still consider a HD6970CF/GTX570SLI/GTX580SLI to be a much more safer and better performing option.

If OP was bothered about any of that, he wouldn't have got the GTX580 SLI in the first place.

I'd rather suggest he goes with the more expensive of the two options. Will definitely have more bling value :D

there are few problems with 2 gtx 580 that is the temperatures... the top card gets really hot because of the heat generated by the card beneath it...so i am thinking of getting a single dual gpu card....

I am a nVidia Fanboy but i suggest 6990 if you want not much decrease in performance...

nVidia has much better driver support and GTX590 fares well in all nvidia optimised games.... But 6990 performs well overall...

BTW,if temp is a problem, why not improve cooling? Your current setup is great....

Just add extra fans to your Cabinet and replace the stock fans with good ones...

^^

Which exact board you have, I thought the eXTREME PCI slot between the two PCI.E slots. Should not that space be enough. It is standard..?

AMD HD 6990 -- It runs decently, tempratures stable, has a OC BIOS setting and a wh00ping 4GB RAM buffer.

nVidia GTX 590 -- the latest Forceware drivers can burn your cards. YouTube - Geforce GTX 590 burns @ SweClockers.com

In the end depending on the titles you pick up, pick the card as few games like Civilization V have a constant bias towards nVidia.

extreme has 3 pci expres slots..3 rd slot is x8...so i have to use 2nd and 3rd slots...if i put the second card in 3 rd pci express slot the config becomes x8..
