The decision to keep GTA IV episodic content off the PS3 is a mean one. It may also have a big impact on both sales of the game and of the 360 and PS3 consoles themselves, so what could possibly lure Take-Two into going steady with Microsoft?

Oh, about $50,000,000.

This was revealed in Take-Two's second quarter fiscal 2007 results conference call. When asked for details on the move by analyst Evan Wilson, of Pacific Crest Securities, Take Two's CFO Lainie Goldstein disclosed both the sums involved and prospective release dates:

The first 25 is for the first episodic content package that's supposed to go out and that is in March of '08. That's why it moved into current because it's in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal '08.

So Microsoft ponied up $25 million a pop for exclusive rights to two GTA IV episodic downloads. Hooley dooley. Bets are now being taken on just how much these things are going to cost.

^ No they are not. Its not like GTA IV is a X360 exclusive... it still comes out on PS3 the same day. MS just got themselves a couple of extra episodes...and at $25 mil each.... i guess they probably need to sell a whole ton of them to make up for the cost.

God knows how much they are gonna charge for those episodes in microsoft points...10000pts :P

Well, this sheds more light on the deal. apparently, MS is hoping to make huge profits from this thing and even if they don't, they'll be paid back whatever they paid TT. In conclusion, MS loses nothing.

* Microsoft payed an advance for 2 downloadable content packs, 25 million apiece, based on speculated profits.

* These packs will be sizable

* PS3 will not being seeing this content for at least a YEAR.

* Microsoft expects of at least 70 million PROFIT. Take Two and Microsoft are looking forward to this and are extremely confident

* Even if they don't make back their money (50 million), Take Two has to return the difference advance.

Take-Two refuses to comment any further on chief financial officer Laine Goldstein's "oopsie" that Microsoft may have paid $50 million for GTA IV's episodic content. Goldstein said during a conference call last week that they had been paid $25 million for the episodic content to be released next March and another $25 million for their next fiscal year. GI.biz, along with almost every other news outlet, contacted Take-Two for clarification and got nothing but the wall of voicemail and receptionists who just can't find someone to comment at the moment.

Some questions remained previously about if the GTA IV episodic content was "exclusive" (the same way Haze is a timed exclusive) or if the Xbox 360 episodes were actually exclusive exclusives (that word really gets so muddy in this industry). Take-Two confirmed late last week that the episodes are actually only for Xbox 360. And at a price of $50 million dollars, if that's how much the episodes actually were, you better believe that the word exclusive means exactly that in this case. There is also the belief that the $50 million is an advance to Take-Two on what Microsoft believes their portion will be off of Xbox Marketplace sales. Although, $50 million dollars for two episodes is still a large sum of money ... an oddly large sum.

Almost forgot, the points tht are saying tht the DLC would be released on PS3 after a year later and R* will be giving back the difference advance is said by your resident jacka$$ Michael Pachter.Microsoft and R* are just keeping quiet..not disclosing any information at all and trying to change the subject to how innovative Manhunt 2 on the Wii is.
