"School shooting expert" Jack Thompson appeared on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews today to ramble incoherently further about the gossamer-thin connection between Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung-Hui's actions and the Half-Life mod Counter-Strike. According to Jack—and no one else—Seung-Hui might have played Counter-Strike in high school at some point making him a calm and efficient killer. While Jack defends that connection in the most what-the-**** way possible, Matthews takes him to task for his massive leaps in "logic."

Normally, I'm not a fan of helping this tired [expletive deleted] spew his garbage propaganda via the site, but the clip is worth watching for a refreshing change. Instead of letting JT simply regurgitate the same spiel for the thousandth time unfettered, Matthews actually calls into question Jack's warping of the facts.

It's ironic tht jackass has to relate counter-strike to the shooting even though washington post's online article which referred to counter-strike 'mysteriously' disappeared ;) and a different version was displayed.

If the killer was in fact influenced by CS, he must've been a complete noob to be using dual pistols. Everyone knows Desert eagle is where it's at.

After settling suit with take 2

According to Game Politics, Take-Two Interactive and frequent tragedy exploiter Jack Thompson have settled their current disputes before going to trial. In March, Take-Two filed a suit in federal court following Thompson's attempts to block the sale of the games Grand Theft Auto IV and Manhunt 2, which was followed by the Miami [expletive deleted] going "Nuh uh" and countersuing the publisher.

The settlement now assures that JT will not: sue or threaten to sue to block sale or distribution of any game published by Take Two or its subsidiaries; communicate to Take Two or anyone doing business with T2 (like, say Wal-Mart) any accusation that the company committed any wrongdoing by selling its games; make any future contacts with T2 unless it's through its attorneys.

Now how do we get him off TV? Further details and sexy court documents at Game Politics

Jack Thompson Blames Bill Gates for VT Shooting

Last time we published a letter from Jack Thompson, we had to clarify it wasn't joke. His messianic words and biblical quotes indeed came from the attorney and Christian conservative activist obsessed with video game violence. Once again, we need to clarify that what you are about to read is a real letter coming from Thompson.

Game Almighty has received an email from Thompson that includes an open letter sent to Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. The letter reads as follows:

April 18, 2007

Bill Gates

Microsoft
1 Microsoft Way
Redmond, WA 98052 Via Fax and e-mail

Dear Mr. Gates:

On Monday, April 16, at 3:10 pm, I was a guest, as I often have been in the past, on the Fox News Channel. News anchor Bill Hemmer asked me to profile the Virginia Tech rampage killer. I did so, noting that until that day the worst school massacre in world history was at the hands of Robert Steinhaeuser, who literally trained on the Microsoft on-line, hyper-violent shooter game, Counterstrike. I mentioned your company’s game by name. I explained that the rehearsal for such a massacre is key to being able to pull it off, as efficiently as Cho, whose name we didn’t even know at the time. Cho and Steinhaeuser were able to do what they did the first time because it was not the first time. This is why the military uses this same virtual reality simulation to train soldiers to want to kill and how to kill calmly, as the witnesses of Cho said he did.

Sure enough, last night I was doing a west coast radio interview when the host said to me, "Mr. Thompson, you are right. The Washington Post is reporting right now the following:

‘Several Korean youths who knew Cho Seung Hui from his high school days said he was a fan of violent video games, particularly Counterstrike, a hugely popular online game published by Microsoft, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns.’"

I thus went back on the Fox News Channel, and Bill Hemmer and I explained not only that I was right about your game figuring in the Virginia Tech massacre but also that the Washington Post excised the above excerpt from the story this morning. That is yet another story. The bad news for the Post however is that you can still get the excised excerpt at http://www.washingtonpost.com/...AR2007041700563_3.html?hpid=topnews. Thus, the cat is out of the bag, and his paw prints are still on the bag. Is this a great Internet, or what?

As you know, I similalry [sic] went on NBC’s Today Show with the DC Beltway Sniper still unidentified and at-large a few years ago and told Matt Lauer and the nation that the triggerman would most likely be a teen video gamer trained on a sniper video game. The tarot card was a clue, but there were other clues. I was right, as Malvo trained on your Microsoft game, Halo. NBC reported that three months later, and it was part of the criminal trial of Malvo.

Mr. Gates, your company is potentially legally liable the harm done at Virginia Tech. Your game, a killing simulator, according to the news that used to be in the Post, trained him to enjoy killing and how to kill. You knew five years ago that your on-line game, Counterstrike, so clearly figured in the massacre by a student in Erfurt that the event and the game impacted the race for Chancellor in Germany at the time!

Yet, here you are, five years after "Erfurt," still marketing Counterstrike. having done nothing to disable the server(s) for this mass murder simulator, and it looks like "Virginia Tech" is a consequence. There’s more going on in the world than Vista. Just ask the bereaved Virginia Tech families.

Mr. Gates, pull the plug on Counterstrike today, or do we need more dead to convince you? "Virginia Tech" was the 9-11 of school shootings, and it appears Microsoft is in the middle of it, in more ways than one.

Regards, Jack Thompson

They didn’t exactly kiss and make up, but Grand Theft Auto publisher Take Two Interactive and anti-game attorney Jack Thompson have apparently reached settlement on a pair of pending legal actions in Florida.

One immediate result is that Thompson will no longer have to worry about being jailed for contempt of court in regard to last October’s Bully case.

GamePolitics readers may recall that Take Two filed suit against Thomspon in a Florida federal court last month. T2’s action was primarily based upon Thompson’s threats to sue to block sales of upcoming Rockstar games Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Thompson promptly filed a countersuit whch was highlighted by charges that Take Two violated federal racketeering (RICO) statutes. The controversial attorney also accused several prominent game media outlets (including GamePolitics) of participating in a vast conspiracy against him. However, as reported by GamePolitics, an amended complaint subsequently filed by Thompson quietly dropped the RICO allegations

In the settlement, filed with Federal District Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga, Thompson has agreed that he:

1.) will not sue or threaten to sue to block sale or distribution of any game published by Take Two or its subsidiaries (i.e., Rockstar).

2.) will not communicate to Take Two or anyone doing business with T2 (like, say Wal-Mart) any accusation that the company committed any wrongdoing by selling its games. Thompson is not restricted from criticizing the content of T2 games, nor is he prevented from acting as counsel in lawsuits brought against Take Two by other parties

3.) will make any future contacts with T2 through its attorneys

For its part Take Two has agreed to dismiss the federal lawsuit and Thompson will drop his counterclaim. T2 has also agreed to drop the Bully contempt of court matter. There was to have been a hearing on the case tomorrow morning, and Thompson could potentially have been jailed if he were found to be in contempt by a Miami-Dade County judge.

Read all of the settlement legalese here.

Hope so Jack wont blame GTA (Atleast) for any killings happening:hap2: :hap2: :hap2:
I just wanna - Take This Thompson:tongue:
