@broar: maybe you're right, i tried "jumper" and it returned many pages (mostly like HDD jumper posts) and i tried "jumper movie" and only a few results with no movie post :) unless guruji is slow up update its search database/index, if it cant locate such a clear case, then google is your friend!

Hi, I am an on and off member here and btw, i work at Guruji. There are improvements being made. one cannot be google overnight!! "Guruji sucks" is easier to type than "guruji is not right for us at this time" but it neednt be truer. what i find in common between TE and Guruji is the passion involved. TE had some 50 steady members after 6 months?? its very easy to say what crappy forum would have only 50 members and some few hundred posts? but thts not where it ends. “Picture Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Dost”. Backing a winner who consistently wins is easy. But ppl who win back outsiders and underdogs who win!! I am not claiming Guruji WILL win. But i am asking people to be patient with the search box functionality!! after all Guruji is younger than TE in the online world!! :)

@ mjain. No hard feelings , but what people want is something that is either better or different. sadly guruji does neither. There might be some people who are passionate about getting Indian stuff to compete with the best of the world , but that doesn't mean that they have to suffer as a result. I have a tata car. I know that one day tata will be the best among Indian car makers,Currently, it may not be the best there is . but at the same time , they offer outstanding value for me to buy it. Hence the reason i bought it. You cant expect everyone to be an altruist.

Right now , it will even be harder for you , as both you and your competitors ( Google ie ) offer the same services at the same price point , so price cannot be a differentiator. so you need to offer something Google doesn't . apparently from the posts here , you guys aren't.

The reason why i think TE grew was that it offered a unique perspective , and a strong knowledge base in the community, and folks who put a lot of effort into it. and it showed, even when it was just 50 strong. You could obviously tell it was going to be different from the other tech sites. There have been a lot of other forums , which have begun with commercial backing , which still arent as good as TE.

I have neither love nor hate towards your site. I know its hard to be compared against the best there is. but when you want to replace it , then you WILL be benchmarked against it. Whatever your POV is , I just want the maximum ease of use at TE. We (the users) dont owe you any favours. The admins here might, but thats not my problem. I want a search, and i want it to work. If it doesnt , I'll look elsewhere.

Sorry for being so blunt , but Its the truth which most people wont tell you out of courtesy. I feel that a bit of constructive criticism never hurt any body, so am being open. Offer something that we want, give us a reason that matters to us , and we'll flock to you in droves.

If people havent read it clearly i said the case could be "guruji is not right for us at this time". ppl have to fight with the mods for that. I wasnt asking ppl to use guruji as a favour. and neither do i expect ppl to be altruists. all i said was sucking or not is a time-specific thing. wat sucks today may not suck tomorrow. i did not ask TE to continue using guruji. I made a point which meant in simple english: " dont write us off yet!! ".

sachin wouldve sucked as an international batsman if he was selected for indian cricket team when he was 5 yrs old!! :)

@Greenhorn: point well taken but ur reply is to something that i did not post!! And the mods dont owe us anything!! The parallel with TE was to drive home the point that all things start small. Not to demean TE in its initial stages.

and offering something people want is a very big agenda at Guruji. Please list additional features and differentiators you would like to see. Getting the core search is definitely of highest priority and other suggestions you might give will help us make the service better.

Meh, I'm too lazy to do your market research :P besides, it should be about innovation ;)

Why my post is relevant to your reply is that

1) you asked for us to use it, and why we should do so from your POV

2) Bad TE analogy

So I replied

1) why I wont use it, and My POV

2) why TE analogy bad

All the best with your venture !

While we do appreciate your interest in improving guruji, if you are looking for feedback and suggestion on how to improve the search, this is not the forum. (Maybe internet zone is)

And i will have to agree with the members, the search is not improving at all. Yes we do support Indian ventures, and rome wasn't built in a day, but there is very little foundation building going on. Siddharth had promised to fix this last month end, and i think i brought it to his notice quite a few months back, but although its shade better, i don't think it is very user informative

guruji Search: psp

psp - Google Search

Notice the difference. (oh and psp is just an example)

If it wasnt for Safin's patriotism. we would got google search here :) . I sense Safin you want to help other causes too...

point taken safin. but i notice you have done a web search for the query. but the thread is about site search, specifically TE search. and i saw very little difference when i did a psp site:techenclave.com on both google and guruji

"Guruji"  Sure you will get headache in one minute :lmao::rofl: Now am hoping to see the launch of "Masterni"

not sure when it appeared but there is now both guruji and google seach boxes, at least on the default theme :)
