ok, so i install the final version of XP x64,....everything goes fine...(installed version includes service pack)
FYI my config - AMD64 3000+ ,asus K8N, 256 RAM.
Now....i install my latest nvidia nforce 64 bit 250 drivers, also nvidia 64 bit display drivers.and my Realtek AC97 64bit drivers.

Now everything works fine, networking n all...except...i get this error !!
I get a bubble saying i have a system error.. Event 106.
this is what it says.

so i go check on microsoft site and find out many people are facing the same problem....and apparently the solution is to re-flash your bios.

ok....now...1stly...my driver cd which i got alog with the motherboard does not recognize my motherboard :O ...meaning it says its not asus.

now i have 2 files which i think are bios files....plz help me here....
one is K8N.rom (512kb) and the other is K8N1004.ami (downloaded from asus site recently)

now...1> my asus bios flasher is not 64bit compatible, hence it does not work, nor does the asus update utility.
2> if i have to,..how do i flash my bios ,and which file do i use.

thts all for now.....need feedback asap !!

p.s - no AV works,....had read somewhere that NOD32 does,..tried it..but it does not ! suggest 64bit compatible AV also !!

What video card?if ur card has different 2d and 3d clocks-that error is actually an unsuccessful transition from one to the other, fairly common and nothing to worry about.

try any of them. the flasher program will promt you if it is wrong extension. try the *.rom first.

I hope you have d/l'ed the correct bios file for your m/b. kindly reconfirm it from the asus website.

update..-- i reflashed my bios with the old k8n.rom which is included in my motherboard driver cd by the alt + F2 method.
but its still the same...
i need to update it with the new bios which i downloaded from the asus site, but its K8N1004.AMI .....now how do i use a ami file type to upgrade ??
using the alt +F2 method..it says 'could not find 'K8N.rom'

why dont you use the afudos utility that comes with the bios files at asus site ? create a bootable floppy and then copy the afudos and the bios file then boot from the floppy and use the afudos command to flash the bios. think the command is

afudos /i<biosfilename>

but check out the exact command to use by typing afudos /? at the prompt

alternatively you can try renaming the .ami file to k8n.rom and dumping it on a floppy and then use the alt + f2 method

Yes , as bottle has suggested rename the file "K8N1004.rom" and try the alt + f2 method.

if that is not successful then use the tried and tested method of dos flashing.

ok guys...thanks a lot. flashing successful...my new bios is ver. 1004 ...still prob exisits... i still get error event id 106 :(
