Hairstyle discussion

No discussion thread around so thought of starting one. (with my hair style issues)

I'm having a curly hair issue since few months.
My actual original hairstyle/shape is mostly straight as in they should stay in any given style without getting curled etc.
But the issues is, if I do not maintain haircut periodically the hair keeps growing but the overall hairstyle shape/style get screwed as the hair keeps getting rounded/curled.
The only solution here is to cut the hair too short (like school going kid) that once they start growing I can mold them in any style and they do remain straight thereafter unless I again miss on timely haircut schedule.
But this method requires to compromise on hair looks etc.

Want to know if apart from professional hair straightening are there any homely solutions which will bring back original straight style without spending on hefty damaging procedures outside. I visited few shops and they suggest few therapies and procedures which require to dedicate 2-3 hours + spending huge sums.

** I do not use any gels or any solutions but just oil hair once a week before hair wash.

I've had short hair for this reason as well. The weather here tends to make hair curl more than in colder weather.

I'm fine with short hair, easier to maintain. Just what you need in this weather.

I think what you do is optimal. Maybe use oil more frequently.

Check if your hair is becoming curly after headbath. If it is not, you can use a conditioner to keep your hair straight. Curd acts as a natural conditioner, you can try that.

If it is too hot outside, hair turns curly even with conditioner, only solution that I know is apply a little amount of oil while the hair is wet. This will make your hair look dense and keeps ur hair straight.

After a head bath & before or after drying, they do not curl except only if I use brush comb to comb them. But if I just do some rough setting using fingers, they stay good in place and if I ride on a bike without helmet then everything goes for a toss and back to curly thing.
Dont know relation between summers or hot weather but earlier that was not the case.

If I comb them in wet the curls vanish but as soon as they dry, curls star showing up.

Agreed but I'm someone to whom long straight hair suits given my face etc. & features. Short is fine once a year or so to maintain hair.

You have Frizzy hair. lmao.
Use a good hair conditioner or hair Mask post shampoo for 5 mins. Get haircuts on time, get split ends out.
There is no magic wand to keep hair good except for genetic lottery. If your hair face physical obstruction like other hair, they will obviously curl. If you cant always get haircut, get a trimmer & scissors and DIY.

See, with me my hair has always been curly once it gets longer. There was never any start phase :)

Maybe see a dermatologist or one that specialises in this area

Yup! I missed on timely haircuts in a years time and seems slowly it is costing me. Lockdown effect!
Tried diy during lockdowns but only on the edges trimming excessive hair.
I don't really understand as my hair has always been curly once it gets longer. There was never any start phase :)

If hair are thin they will naturally curl after growing to a specific length but again it depends how you maintain and care for them.
In my case they are mix of thick and thin but failing to timely cut and maintain seems to be making them permanently curly etc /9like the above second part pics) which I do not want.

Same condition as you @nRiTeCh
Just that I wash my hair daily and oil afterwards as well. Since the childhood.

I think combing hair a lot makes it curl as well.
Since childhood this was my schedule till yr2008 when someone in my family as well as one Trichologist told me its not good to wash hair daily and also to oil them everyday and I seriously think thereafter slowly my thick hairs started thinning (cannot neglect age factor too.) but seriously I regret my decision.
Now, in a week I wash them thrice with shampoo.
Also, as for conditioner I was told there is no such thing like it for men. This again has been bothering me hence never risked of using one.

I would add that when I used to wash and oil hair daily, I had never ever used shampoos etc. Just shikakai soap was enough and I never ever suffered from hair loss and never heard the word dandruff. But when I started following what was told, the damaged thing kicked in...hairfall, dandruff, etc.

Hair going curly is due to static electricity build up and humidity in the air IIRC.

So you need a good hair conditioner separate from shampoo. Also apply less greasy hair old. Carry one of those anti static hair brush to use during the day too.

Unsure how to blame humidity factor as when I used to reside in Mumbai my hair style actually used to stay in place/shape round the year with/without oiling.
So, shouldn't humidity keep hair moist and in shape rather than disrupting the style pattern?

I see it this way...just like when we wet our hair, they can be styled anyhow anyway and they remain in that shape but if your hair are dry then nothing can be done hence even stylists sprinkle water before doing any hairstyle.

Curling is a simple process. When there's more pressure on one side of the hair than the other side, it curls. Basic uneven expansion. Heat can cause it too.
(search how to curl ribbons)

Excessive combing will definitely lead to curling

I have a weird issue which no trichologist has been able to solve.
I have only one sided hairfall. Like on left side if I comb then almost 15-20 stands fall while on right side hardly 2 or zero. Growth pattern is fine and equal on entire scalp.
Have done all useless clinical tests asked by doctors and nothing unusual found.
This issue was never faced by my parents or even my brother.

Just worried it should not happen that I go on side bald rather than uniformity.

I only comb after bath if I wash hair or not and during time when I go out. But the effect has been more or less equal aka curly.
As said really dont want to damage hair just for keeping them in shape by using gels or other such products.

Yeah gel is a big no-no for me too.

This thing even hit me years ago but doctors told its also stress related and routine thing.
