Half Life 2 Ep1 VERY FIRST level.. ??!!!!!

Right when the game starts, when there is a girl and a robot kinda thing which gives a gun to the player, how does one climb up where the girl goes (when she says her father is calling). Screen says Mouse 1 to Pull, Mouse 2 to Punt, i press Mouse 1, mouse 2 and try to jump but it doesnt climb it.. its soo frustrating!!
can anyone help?!

Do you play the game with the volume off? The "girl" and the "robot" both have a name, you know.

Anyway, You have to remove some planks with the grav gun while standing to the extreme right of the ruins which will lower a bridge for you to walk across.
