Is this available in india?

I bought 2 of the Sunbeam Docking Stations from Prime at Lamington Road for around 2k each. I use them quite a lot every day for my backups.

To protect the Dock from dust I made a cover out of a plastic container - I cut a hole at the back for the wires to pass thru.

Thanks for the info.

Does it come with ESATA cable?

Also my motherboard does not have esata port, where can I get the esata bracket which I can attach in the PCI slot and how much is the approx cost of that?

Can I fit in a 1.5 TB or 2TB disk in this?

It comes with the Esata cable.. THe Esata bracket shouldn't be very costly, but I'm not sure. The docking station fits upto 1.5TB disks, I suppose. Not sure, again.

vantec one is good. i personally have used it. nice to use and way better than enclosures for frequent hdd transfer maniac like us.

I have .... err.... uhum..... 22 HDDs.... so this is an invaluable piece of hardware for me. Everytime someone asks me what gift I want I say - a HARD DISK !!

What I feel is that eSATA on the Sunbeam case will not be HOT SWAPPABLE - I used to get system lockups when I powered off a eSATA HDD in my Vantec case (my Vantec is a case not dock), I think the Sunbeam will do the same. :(

@stackoverflow - I think I read somwhere that the Sunbeam Dock can handle a max HDD size of 1 TB

@easy thanks for the info

hot swappable is not important for me - as long as my HDD gets detected through esata I will feel great.

I heard somewhere that since this thing does not contain a BIOS - as long as the OS detects my disk correctly 1.5 or 2TB should not be an issue.

Thanks.

@sagar

Can I install AHCI when I am installing vista ie. an upgrade frm vista to XP?

What is the correct method to install these drivers - I did not quite understand ur suggestion above.

Also do I need to change anything in BIOS?

@stackoverflow what use is a hot swappable dock if its not hot swappable? :P

those docks main selling point is being able to hot swap hdds!!

:hap2: Just happened to see a post of yours in another forum as an answer to my question way back on 09-07-2006.

"I buy a HDD everytime I have some spare cash Just a sort of paranoia - I have had 4 HDD die on me and I have tons of Videos and mp3 stuff..... I dont take chances. 4 of the HDDs are in external USB cases - each with a different lot of backups. I am sure you have realised I have a lot of free time

I have an Antec P160 with an Antec TP II 550 PSU. This case allows very easy HDD swapping - like most cases today."
