Recently i am facing problem with my Seagate 250gb 7200.10 drive.
many times it doesn't detect at all.I have to kick it's a$$ to get it working.:bleh:
some times that too doesn't work.
it works when it wants and not when i need.:@
it is continuously giving rattling sound.some times too heavy :crash:
HD Tune is showing it's it's condition as good.
it has warranty till 2013 but can't RMA it as it has lot of stuff.
is there any way to hold it's life till i get a new HDD?

Which PSU do u use ?

Did you check your SATA Power/Data Cables ?

I use to get the same error and sound when i had my old 300W cheapo PSU and plus i needed to add a IDE to SATA converter as it only had IDE cables

My 160GB SATA Seagate blew up two times before i got my PSU changed

I too had problems with my 7200.10 320 GB Seagate drive. As soon as I sensed a problem, I bought a new 500 GB WD green and backed up all my data on it just before my Seagate HDD died. The PSU was a cheap Zebby that came with the Zebby lava cabby. I changed to a VIP 400 EX and it is working fine now. Got my Seagate RMAed and both HDDs are now in the system with the Seagate having the OS and data and WD used as a backup and archiving drive.

So yes a change of PSU is certainly required but hurry up and backup your data before you loose it completely.

I can't comment over the psu...since i faced same problem two days back and i'm using Tagan 500W psu. My new 320 GB WD Caviar which was RMA'ed 1 month back refused to work two days back. I tried all the possible methods to check the problem and start the disk, but it didn't worked. It was making some crunch sound while spinning at startup and was not being detected by BIOS and OS. I became very hopeless bcoz my all the important data was on it. But surprisingly it worked today itself without any efforts. I also checked its condition through WD's hard drive diagnostic tool, and it showed its condition to be good. Now I've backed up all the data on it to the other 320 GB WD Blue...since i don't trust the Caviar one now.

What the F these hard disk manufacturers r doing? Cheating the customer by producing low quality products. I'm feeling very insecure about my data on the hard disks from now. Don't know which day which hard disk will go kaput....since they are also not showing any prior failure symptoms or warnings before failing.

Most probably the PSU is the problem here, faced lot of similar problems with my 4 yr old VIP(L&C 500WGold PSU) & it killed 2 of my Hitachi 250Gb HDD.Have now recently so changed to a better pSU Corsair 550VX & everything appears fine till date..

& yes, most of the HDD manufacturers r reaally making all the crap quality drives nowdays,(cheap prices & quality gone 2 dogs)My Brand New WD 1TB 32mb GReen HDD failed (DOA)with bad sectors.RMAD it,got a WD1TB 32MB BLACK Fals as replacement, & lo, this turned out defective as well from the word go, doesnot even bootup & shows up in the bios, instead always making crunch-crunch like sound, now given for RMA once more, awaiting replacement!

In such cases, its either the PSU or the HardDisk itself

RMA ur Harddisk and get a better PSU to avoid any future problems :)
