Hi all,

Any idea how to recover files AFTER formatting entire hdd while installing windows 7 and creating new partitions?

Any particular software specifically meant for this purpose?

Thanks, am already trying this one, thought of asking here in hope of something better/faster. :)

The laptop had a 20gb partition for XP previously. I formatted entire hard drive (After transferring all data into an external 320gb drive, but actually by mistake i transferred everything into the second partition) then formatted entire 160gb laptop drive. Made fresh partition of 20500mb for windows 7, installed 7 on it. Installed GetbackData in C drive and was able to recover all data from D drive including all movies, word/excel documents and simple text files also.

GetDataBack is a great tool, PS: Recuva failed. GDB took around 2-3 hours.
 
^^ Good to know that Getdataback worked. Time taken for recovery is high, but I guess it is the same for every good recovery tool. I was in a similar position as yours a few months back, and it was GDB that came to my rescue.
 
yeah, i had this tool since many months but never needed it, had no clue it is so good. I was expecting 7-8 hours time. 3-4 was good, recovered 30gb data approx.
