1. When i try 2 restart it it shows blue screen and restarts again.

2. so i decide to format it, when it gives command PRESS ENTER to continue with setup, and when i press ENTER it shows - HARDRIVE NOT DETECTED!

3.Then i try to enter the BIOS mode which it does not go into.

Does this mean my HARD DRIVE is crashed and i have to install new one?!!

Hard disk dead :P

Anyway, replacement 2.5" HDDs are pretty cheap these days...

I just hope you didnt have any critical data on it

Wait a sec

3.Then i try to enter the BIOS mode which it does not go into.

You can't go to BIOS at all?

Do this, take the HDD out, and then try enteing the BIOS mode

thanx superczar....but i just want to know if the above symptoms confirm the CRASH of my harddisk or do i still have some hope that it is not crashed.

What will b the app cost to replace harddisk for laptop? (80gb)

My laptop is under warranty, so will i get a free replacement of harddisk?

yes man u will get the disk from compaq just call helpline and then viist nearest service center dont try to open anything they will fix it

thank god!!.....the SATA was enabled in the bios, thus it could not detect the hardisk.this happened due to default settings while installing drivers.

ALWAYS KEEP THE SATA OPTION DISABLED IN BIOS!

phew!

Thanks for the info. Each laptop BIOS has it's own quirks. This may not apply to all BIOSes though.
