looks like my ps3 120gb slim has finally given up. on powering on it immediately goes off with blinking red light. sony service center said price is changing so going in for replacement will have to wait for another 10 days but as per old prices i'll have to pay around 11.8k for 12gb model since its a little more than 4 years old now

was wondering if anyone has repaired their ps3 from their local service guy? & what has the costs/experience/longevity of the fix been?

called a few people who are ready to pick it up & give an estimate for 250 & say it'll cost anywhere from 1k-4k depending on the issue. also how long it'll work depends on the issue. few are giving 1 month warranty & some 6 months warranty (though i dont know how much to trust that).

would really love to repair it, rather than go thru the process of deactivating accounts, reinstalling stuff etc. also dont like the look of the super slim. besides, a few game saves havent been backed up (in case of gta4 which i was slogging my way thru means i'll have to play again & that doesnt sound appetising)

googling the issue this looks like red light of death (the slim version of ylod) & if u "reflow" repair it'll work few months but if you "reball repair" it's a permanent fix. is this correct? also how would i know which procedure is the repairer doing?

Where is your location?

Prabs, had provided a location for a repair shop in Bombay. So if you're from Bombay, you may want to try it out.

That's the one I was told. As for it being worth the effort, well, it depends on how long you plan on using it and the depth of the issue. If the issue is quite severe then it may not be worth investing in a repair and just getting a new one instead. However, if you're not looking for a long term investment, then the repair route would be worth a shot.
