Has anyone tried using iBall Baton ib-WAX 108G as wireless repeater?

Hi I am trying to use this iBall Access point as a wireless repeater with my Netgear WGR14 v7 router. WGR614v7 is on ground floor and the repeater is placed at the end other end of this floor near the stairs leading up to basement. THe computer connecting to this repeater is placed right next to the stairs in the basement.
The thing is that the client can get an ip on my network from the router but the router wouldn't respond to its ping and my client can't surf the internet either.

However, another computer which is connected directly to the router (not through the repeater) can reply back to ping requests from the basement computer.

This setup used to work before but then I had to reset it for something and I have failed to make it work again.

I think this could be because I had upgraded my Netgear router's firmware sometime ago.

Has someone tried a similar setup and had any success? Please give me some advice regarding this advice.
Also, please recommend me a setup that I can install from scratch as I am ready to replace both my router and repeater to get a more reliable setup working. The only thing I'll probably want to keep is the Beetel 220BXI modem that came with my Airtel connection.
