Graphic Cards Has nVidia screwed up ?

nVidia are currently patting themselves on the back after the succesful launch of the 7800GTX ahead of arch rival Ati’s Codename R520 launch. But I have this gut feeling that nVidia might have made a mistake this time as well, just like the 5 series. If you havent got my point, read on. The lower end models of the 7 series (maybe the 7200 and 7600) will be released in the coming month, but with the 7800GTX not outdoing the 6800 Ultra greatly, there are strong rumours abuzz that around Christmas by when the R520 would be released, a higher version of the 7800GTX will be released to outperform it. Exactly like the 5 series. nVidia released the 5950 Ultra in pure desperation to beat the 9800XT leaving thousands of 5900 buyers furious.

Lol...As far as the Q goes, it can b answered only whn the Top models r released.....
This war never ends ;)

Nd btw the 7 series offers more of tech nd a lil of speed too....will wait till the Fudo is out :D

Nvidia has a 32 pipe monster waiting in the pipeline, couple that with a speed bump, and then you are talking some serious rendering farms. Hope r520 can compete with that. Also Xmas is a lil late.

i think this nvidia and Ati competion is getting this graphics cards to nowhere ....... y u need a 7800GTX in SLi when 6800Ultra is enuf for games ....... i think all this graphics cards are waste of money at least for now ...... i know some willll not agree with me but i think its not time to launch 7800 or R520 ....... i think game developers are 2 generation behind the graphics card makers ........

Currently it seems R520 would not be on the store shelves within the next 2 ~ 3 months. nvidia has till then to enjoy complete monopoly for the high-end crown.

BUT....the high-end cards are not the bread and butter items for these two co.'s. it is the entry and mid level cards which determines the red or black ink in the balance sheet at the end of the day.
Currently the 6600GT from nvidia is the largest selling entry level card. ATI does not have such a performing card at that price range ($150 ).
if ATI wants to remain competitive it must reduce the price of x800 to that levels forgoing some minor notional losses. if not then they would have a very hard time clearing the stocked up inventories.(Which have grown to alarming levels)
ps: There was a very funny remark i read recently.
The 7800 GTX is so fast ..... that in 3dmark05 , The dragon actually gets to eat the boat ....:ohyeah:

i have played Frycry with SM3 and without it and can't find any noticeble difference .....
did you set r_hdrrendering to some other value like 7 or 11? You cant see hdr otherwise. It looks way better than normal.

Was the boat powered by a 6800 card

@ Rahul

Thn try SC :P
How bout HDR??

cant help u , if u cant notice ny diff :O

I doubt about this screwup.
I mean its suppose to be $399 product by the time big guns Ultra and R520 launches.
There may well be actiually pipe difference this time around between GTX and Ultra unlike 6800GT and 6800U where difference was clock speed only.
Now whats interesting to see is what variends of R520 ATI bring out ;)

Heh thats everywhere by now.
But most proabably they are faulty pipes. Atleast newer cards.
As the yeilds get better then there might be good chance to hit a jackpot :P
