Since the last few days my Hathway 256kbps unlimited conx has gone haywire ... I always got 28 - 32 KB/s download speeds until a few days back. I now get download speeds of around 2 - 5 KB/s if I download one file - but if I downlooad more then one file at a time the total download speed keeps increasing till I have around 6 files being downloaded at the same time when the speed touches 28 - 32 KB/s. This makes no sense to me - anyone know why this is happening ? I cannot download drivers or updates at 2 kb/s - this is ridiculous !!

So far I have changed the cables and the LAN card and have done a fresh install of XP and Vista too - not a bit of difference. What I dont understand is that if I can get 32 KB/s with 6 files being downloaded than why does it go so slow for one file :)

I found that if I download even one file with Flashget I get a speed of 25KB/s - but nowdays it seems to be difficult to find sites that allow downloads with download managers. :(

There seems to be no slow down in Browser speeds - pages seem to open as fast as before. Only the file downloads have slowed down - STRANGE !!

Here are DU Meter screen captures of the speeds I have got with different number of files .... all these are nvidia driver files are from Guru3d ....

Any of the TE Net Working GURU's have a clue as to what is causing this slow speeds for downloads ?

I think your isp is capping your bandwidth per TCP/IP connection. If this is true, your torrents shoudnt be affected

i always had this case with hathway 256... single downloads at 6 kB/s and uploads same , but torrents were unstoppable

why arent you guys complaining? Do you like to see websites at crawling speeds? Since the invention of persistent HTTP connection, the websites would be getting downloaded to your machines at max 6 kBps which is pathetic imho.

Karan

Yep Eazy, i think your ISP is capping your B/W.. :(

have you tried increasing the number of tcp/ip connections? just a thought..

EXACTLY ... problem is with single file downloads. I am fed up with this problem - I cannot download anything unless the site supports Flashget :( ... and I can honestly say that till today I have never downloaded a single torrent file. :cool2:

well then i think its high time you did , btw i had a talk with one of the guys from hathway and they said they are releasing a 512 ul plan in 15-20 days... i wish

I have a 512kbps night UL ( 11-9am) hathway plan....i hv also noticed the same thing while downloading single torrents through public trackers(with seeder to leecher ratio <=1 most of the times)...but i get nice download speeds ( of arnd 55-60KBps) from private trackers(filelist, bitsoup etc. where the S/L ratio is >=10)...

sometimes web pages seem like taking ages to load...maybe coz its a 1:4 connx...i.e.upload capped at 64kbps...but overall web browsing experience so far has been quite decent...and downloads thru DL managers peak around 50KBps..
