Guys,

Have anyone here tried or experienced Geothermal air-conditioning ?

In this increasingly hot climate, wanted to deploy some cooling system which is affordable, low maintenance and environment friendly. I found normal air-conditioners are high maintenance and expensive to maintain in long run.

Did some google-fu and found few companies deploy Geothermal air-conditioning in India. I personally found this idea extremely interesting.

Would be great to hear TEians experience on Geothermal air-conditioning.

This image is from one of the links in your post. Looks like an interesting concept but I doubt it can be done efficiently on a small scale. This is something that has to be factored in at the initial stages of the property development and will make sense only for the centrally air-conditioned buildings.

This will especially make sense as more and more companies move towards water cooled data centers. Which is a relatively new concept still.

I'm guessing you still need an AC i.e. a heat pump? The 'chiller plant' in the image would indicate so. From their description it sounds like the heatsink fins in the AC's ODU will interface with the geothermal unit underground instead of exchanging heat with the hotter surface air.

Had readup on this somewhere - it works if you have large scale needs only. On a smaller scale - it is not going to be efficient.

I would suggest to try passive methods of cooling first.[DOUBLEPOST=1399311452][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah - but AFAIK, it still is efficient. And he would need a water source.

From some links, I found these can be used in Bunglow /Villa type houses and are energy efficient. I hard that someone deployed it in their villa (at Noida) few years back, not in touch with that person at all.

Can this work fine in villa /bunglow type houses ? This image points to such a possibility:

May not be applicable in flat /apartment buildings, but those who are from tropic regions, in southern Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, etc. can benefit from this I think.
