Rest assured, no threads/posts in General Talk would be deleted - unless they are linking to pron/warez/illegal stuff.

You guys are free to start any thread on any subject in GT without fear - and no you do not have to link it up with FE. Also, i have ported back most of the starred/favorite threads from older sections. If you guys want to see any older thread ported back just PM me and i would do the needful. About Adi's water cooling thread - one of our Mods did find it off-topic and left a reason for the deletion "This isnt a gay discussion thread or a thread where you discuss how you want to rob someone. Please stick to the topic."

So basically there are two views here, A Mod felt that the discussion was O/T and Show-off is still part of a tech section - he thought it best to delete those posts. But, you guys might feel that we can allow such discussion - but the thing is where do we draw the line.

Some banter is fine by me, lets see what others have to say on this.

No offence to XT (I think it was he who moderated that thread)....but it was all in good humour.... no one was abusing anyone and it was in good fun.... I just felt it was unnecessary to delete all those OT posts...anyway..... what has happened has happened..... cant be helped....life moves on

Well, i'll give my opinion

I personally like the partition of TE, and am happy that General Talk is allowed for OT stuffs. I am content with the sections present in TE atm.

exactly..... Even I am quite happy with the way TE is..... I dont agree with Bluffy at all..... I mean, yeah, if TE hadnt changed, I would have loved it more...

But change isthe only thing that is constant in life ..... I dont mind this partition that much

Nikhil, at the moment only the newest 5 + 1 Guides/Reviews are being displayed on the portal page. It is a automated process and was implemented recently, thats why older articles do not show up - nothing against any one individual or article.

Earlier, the admins/mods decided whch articles went on the portal and which didnt....many reviews got posted on the portal including movie reviews and a few other hardware reviews and guides.... but not one of my reviews got posted on portal...

now see, I dont really mind......

But sometimes it is nice to be appreciated. And if the staff decide to put my article on the portal, I will obviously feel happy and it will give me inspiration to write more .... I have written 4 reviews.... Acer Ferrari, NV Silencer 5, Creative Megaworks, and XP-120.... not one was put on portal..... Now, I am not a pro, but I dont think they were that bad

Please understand, I am not grumbling..... they dont affect me as such.... I will continue to write review or whatever if I get good hardware....just saying that like me, there may be others also who feel the same way..... Encouragement needs to be given.

So please feel free to bring out all that is in your minds and i mean it.

I understand what you mean - don't worry we would make sure everyone gets their dues not because of some charity but because you guys deserve it.

TE just as a tech forum is going to be dull. If it has to be all tech it has to be somewhere b/w a tech site and a tech forum if not fully on one side.

You just cant have two dozen people talk about numbers/benchies/market all the time and hope this will thrive...

If its going to be just a forum then bring few old sections back...

Funky is one guy whose majority of posts will keep this kind of a site useful...He has a lot more to offer...

I am not sure about what do you mean by other stuff - other stuff as in Non-tech or Warez/Illegal. Answering both.

We will not delete/ban other stuff - but at the moment there are only about 3 - 4 sections where non-tech/other stuff can be posted. for ex - GT, Events, Feedback corner ... or you mean we should allow other stuff in tech sections?

If other stuff is posted in right section it would not be touched - if its in wrong sections Mods would naturally have to move it to the right section.

Or you mean 'other Stuff' - being discussing pirated/warez stuff - in that case that cannot be helped as once we allow discussion on hacks/cracks/warez we might get into trouble legally - sooner or later, which might prove to be disastrous for the whole community.

About last part - do you want more sub-topics in GT?

I just wanted an assurance whaterver inanity we posted in GT, wouldnt get modded off as long as it wasnt warez/pr0n/flaming, and we could get away with ithyeah: I think we've got that assurance now, thanks.
on the other hand i DO NOT want more subtopics in GT... if we kept on adding more sub topics, we'd be putting all the stuff we never wanted in the first place(but I admit I'm a bit partial to jokes:ashamed!

Btw, i had asked earlier if we could have a community based product rating/review system like this where we could evaluate a product after a single review was posted. most of us are lazy asses who cant bother to write full reviews of products they own:ashamed: ... but if it was as simple as clicking a few buttons, and if the whole information was organized instead of spread over several posts, new users could find it very easy to use, and approachable .

Alright One very Important and Usefull section is the Price Guide Section ! It was made for a Purpose but now it seems Like its completely Dead ! Leave alone C2D even the Prices of AMD Athlon Haven't been updated since 2005 ! Techenclave was the only Forum in which I Had seen such a section and believe me it used to Rock ! If not Exact atleast we used to get an approx . idea of How much a Thing is Gonna Cost ! But now it seems like that section is being completely Neglected !

Now what can be Done to Improve it ? I am quite sure many omembers of TE Have Direct contacts with the Dealers so I would say appoint a new Price Guide Mod and frm there on it will be His Duty to Keep the Prices as Up to Date as Possible !

Believe me if u r Gonna update the Price Guide Section its Gonna attract a Large Crowd Thus making the TE Experience even better ! :cool2:

About sub forums - You do have a point there, glad you brought that up.
About Rating system - No reason why not, would surely pass this onto Admins. Excellent suggestion.

About price guide - we did try to update it regularly but that was solely based on the entries we received via price guide form. But i do agree - past few months its been in the back burner as we are caught up with many things.

We are yet to decide on fate of price guide section, but would surely note your preferences down. You would have to wait on this one.

I'm pretty happy about the way TE is functioning right now...great job guys :cool2:
I guess the forum is pretty good and a good bunch of friendly techies sort out all the queries :hap2:

But lately i have seen that some members are being rude to newbies and noobs :no: I guess that the heavy handed moderating is an indirect result of such things....but its a good thing that this thread was started. All the ill feelings will be wiped out...and we can have our good old TE back :clap:

As for reviews, the more the better...great initiative guys...i hope it becomes real

The future of TE??? the good times are just beginning...more and more people are getting into tech stuff and by the time we have a sizable enthusiast community, TE will be veteran Best of luck for the future guys :hap2:

Important update about deleted messages:

Admins have successfully ported back the automated PM hack for deleted messages.

So from now on except for the test-drive section you would get a PM with a reason for deletion if any of your posts/threads are deleted. Of course, the Mod who deleted the post/thread should leave a reason behind or that particular field will be blank. For ex -

Hi *****,

The post that you created in the following thread has been deleted

Post ID: Your deleted post....

Thread: Thread where you posted....

Reason: xx xxxxx xxxxxxx

whenever i used to get bored @ work, i would come to te for my entertainment as well as my source of learning. i have already begun to move to other sites to get my learning and entertainment i do visit Te but the frequency has decreased as well.

But then it could be because i have seen how posting orignal content on your own blog could be better than posting it here. but thats something else. I dont know but i guess im just more tied up.

But honestly TE instead of just being tech specific could have branches of online marketing. TE should empower Indians to help them make money there are so many ways, if you as a small community.

Its never the big who eat the small, its the fast who eat the slow. So if you want to see yourself expanding in a huge fashion live up to the times, dont just think about what you can get but also what you can give back to your users.

Recently your focus has only been yourself with you putting the ads in, charging for membershiop, and now with the digg this etc.

What happens with the nickels? What happens to people who contribute? What do they get?

Atlest help by providing a tool where we can share our knowledge not just on technology but on so many topics that we need. You could also have something on the enviroment, global warming, mumbai flooding its all on a upsurge. What can we do to help, you could be a community bringing india together, but u choose not to.

charging for premium membership (we never wanted to do this, it was done on member's request) and ads (we haven't put any more, we have just changed the placement) have been done keeping the users in mind. if we don have money, we wont be able to run TE. is that so hard to understand? while we appreciate all your comments, we'd like you all to be a bit more practical. the world doesn't run like fantasy games. just my two cents, as u guys say.

For once do you guys know that all the software here is not actually "free". And the dedicated server isn't exactly 10$ bill every month.

None of us here depend on te for earning if thats what you wanna hint. We all earn quite a lot from our jobs frankly.

And yes we do try to do as much as we can to help people(light the candle for mumbai victims) etc. We can't go into controversial topics like reservations but if needed and the country needs it, We will do our best.
