What should I do to solve it? Or is there a need to RMA it?

Absolutely no problem with your drive...

just back up your data.. and reformat your drive... not the quick format.. the slow one..

If thats not possible.. defragment it using a good software.. defragler[free software] or other better software if u have one.

Then do a wipe free space using ccleaner [ free software ].

check again and let us know..

I have four partitions. You mean I need to format all the four partitions?

Recently one of my partitions crashed for some unknown reason so I had to quick format it. Do you think the slow format of that partition will solve it?

EDIT: I've de-fragmented one drive using Defraggler and the process is on for the other partition. And C cleaner is wiping off empty space on the first defragmented partition. The bad sectors have gone down from 181 to 135 while this is going on. So it seems to be working. Cheers :)

Good to know that helped..

But what i meant was to back up all your data... delete all the partitions.. and then slow format it and repartition.

Since that is not possible in your case you can back up all data from one of the partition, empty it and then slow format it.. doing this for all partitions..

and last option is what you did above.. defragging and wipe free space each partition.

If your drive's SMART Status is warning, you might as well RMA. Get a new HDD. I could never risk it

Some of my important data is backed up. But a clean format at this stage is not possible. Neither is RMA since my exams are on. The unstable sectors got reduced to 7 from 181 while defragging two partitions so I guess it's some logical error and not physical. If I can't do anything about it in a month and a half, I'll RMA it.

Thanks for the help guys.

the unstable sectors can be scanned and fixed using chkdisk

and for your warning in hdtune, it usually says to replace your sata cable but strangely it hasnt said it in your case so you can even try with it.

I'll try it. Thanks.
