Graphic Cards HD6950 issues need help

Hi,

My friend recently purchased a MSI 6950 twin frozer III edition , he connected it to his PC (which has CRT monitor at the moment) . His PC boots in upto the Windows loading screen then shows a blank screen with no display (OS is loading but no display) or sometimes he can see some artifacts on the screen for some time and again display goes blank.
His PSU is Corsair hx-650 . Anyone else faced same issue or any suggestions please help.

Was it working fine when it was purchased??

If NO, then

What is the max resolution of your friends CRT monitor??? - If its equal or less than 1024x768/1280x1024, then you should set reso at 1024x768 by attaching your display/any other 1366x768 display to his system and frequency at 60hz. And then connect his monitor directly while the system is running.Check if this works.

The artifacts are a point of concern. Coz the PSU is far more than capable of powering 6950, so might be some other issue.

OP..it might be that the HD 6950 is faulty but before arriving at that conclusion, try clearing CMOS using jumper, also take out the cmos battery from the mobo & do one proper power cycling. Then try and boot. Plz also note that in all HD 6950s only one DVI port is dual link, kindly make sure the DVI-VGA adapter is plugged into that port & not the other one. Typically this DL port will be the bottom DVI port on the card when the card is installed on the motherboard and your case is upright.

Hmm its just 3 days since he connected it . So he has not really played even a single game on it.

One more point he has the onthefly display switchable option i.e he can use onboard graphics while not playing games etc , he says even that gives similar issues but if he unplugs his card then there are no issues with display while using onboard graphics.

HD6950 is not compatible with Hybrid Crossfire.

1. Boot Windows with the onboard graphics

2. Remove graphics driver using Devices menu

3. Shut off machine

4. Install graphics card in slot and connect the monitor

5. Switch on computer, disable onboard graphics, boot Windows in Safe mode

6. Let it detect the card and assign default VGA driver

7. Boot normally and install AMD drivers

8. Reboot if required.

@Devvfatility

Hmm.Will try and report back.

@Cranky

Its not hybrid crossfire i guess , because its not a amd machine its intel m/c . But will surely try what you have suggested will .

Will tell him to try what all you have suggested today will report back tommorow anymore suggestions are welcome.

Tried the suggested methods looks like a faulty card problem with PCI-E slot looks slim as he has 2 PCI-E slots and its not wrokin on both. Will try on my machine this weekend ,i hope its fine if i test it on a vx550 watt.

yes you can test it on a VX550 :)
