Guru3d/TPUp are accessible. Beaten by the GTX 580....!

TPU suddenly becomes slow after loading 2-3 pages well.

AT seems to be up and running well now.

And its $140 less than 580 :p

According to TPU charts,
HD6950(100%) - HD 5870(98%) at 1920*1200. ~$30-40 cheaper than the GTX570
HD6970(100%) - GTX570(98%) at 1920*1200. But GTX570 is priced ~$20-30 lower than the HD6970.

I think this series belongs to NVidia. Guess their GTX560 should thrash the HD6870 at the same price point.

That's not the point. Look at the prices they are being hawked at. Killer move IMO. If you can't produce a giant killer, go for the masses. At these prices buyers would certainly think thrice before investing in a 580/570!

It was heralded as the high end enthusiast part. I was expecting a part quicker than the highest GTX 580. Yes, ATI changed the positioning realizing the performance metrics.

580/570 still better. And now u still have to wait for drivers to get the "max" out of the 6900 series, but knowing ATI and their drivers hmmm...

If I read the reviews correctly and the prices on vendor websites are correct/current, the average 22K price point of the GTX570 would seem to hit the right spot between price and performance. That is, if you discount energy efficiency, where AMD still has the upper hand.

I can pretty much bet that the 6970 will launch at 25-28K and the 6950 around the 20-22K, both of which are a little higher than optimal even if you factor in energy efficiency. AMD has been slightly overpricing their products in India lately - the 5870 is still at ~24K and is handily beaten by the GTX570 across the board. Overpricing of AMD products was an issue a few years ago, it has been tweaked but not as well as one would hope for.

My personal interpretation is that users with 2560x monitors (myself included) would be mildly better off with the ATI cards and the larger majority of 22-24 inch 1920x displays with the GTX series. All of this would finally come down to prices in India, the 6970 has to be priced right between the 570 and 580 for it to work at all (something I highly doubt given AMD's past strategies), and the 6950 just around or slightly under the 570, the latter pretty much better than the 6950 at resolutions below 1920x where frame buffer limitations cease to exist.

Finally, the new GPU wars are great though the next jump in performance with 32nm is really which will separate the boys from the men. 32nm is an inherently leaky process, and with a few million transistors it's going to be interesting, to say the least.
