Afterall being the most crucial part of the system..

i want my hdd taken care of..

don't want it to go bad because it was heating up..

My comp. runs for atleast 10hrs a day..downloading movies,watching movies & stuff ..

My HDD's temp is always around 43~44 *C ..

So I wanted to know what kind of HDD coolers(fans etc..) are locally available for a HDD and for how much ??

I have the Seagate ST3250310AS ..

Went through a few international shopping sites which listed quite a lot of hdd cooling solutions but i'm sure atleast 70~80% of those products won't be available here..

Hard Drive Fans and HD Coolers at Xoxide.com - Hard Drive Coolers

Hard Disk Drive Cooler

Hard Drive Coolers, Hard Drives Cooling Fans at TigerDirect.com

If possible,do recommend some place in Richie street(Chennai ) from where i can get this stuff..

Thnx..

I'm using Zebronics Bijli cabinet having 120mm fan in front of my 320gb seagate HDD.

Room temperature is >35C<mumbai summer> My temps are :

idle temp = 36C-37C

load temp = 38C-41C

never seen it going beyond 43C<exhaust fan not running>.

The most important thing is the ventilation of your cabinet.

I've tried using fan based hard disk coolers and I don't think they'll help you that much +they make a lot of noise so try the silent ones having heatsinks and all.

PS some of the HDDCoolers you've mentioned are costlier than Zebronics Bijli itself. Try and get a better ventilated cabinet with a front bay fan.

thnx for ur replies guys..

the cabinet could be the main reason..

my cabinet has horrible ventilation !!

sometimes when i download non-stop,i leave one side of the cabinet open !

was planning to get holes cut on the sides for vent. fans but this cab is just not worth the trouble..

guess i have to buy a good enough cabinet soon , if hdd coolers don't have much of an effect on the temperature..

But for now,can someone suggest a locally available, cheap, simple & reasonably effective cooler(hs or fan) for my hd??

HDD temperature of 43-44 is fine and well within the 60 degree threshold the HDD's have.
Why spend on the cooler when you do not need to.

oh ok...
i read somewhere that the HDD's normal operating temp should be less than 40*c,so got a bit worried.

thnx.

hmmm what u should do i try get in the evercool hdd coolers it will take in 1 bay of ur cabinet , some 500 bucks or so in mumbai

You should invest in a cheap vfm cabinet like the zebronics bijli if you're looking for a longterm and effective cooling solution. It's only for Rs 1200 in mumbai and comes with 1 X front 120mm + 2 X side panel 80m fans.
