Guide
hi guys

i today uninstalled norton antivirus 2010 and before it it was showing my c drive has 14.9 gb free space left.
Before the uninstallation i updated my windows xp(files must be max 100mb).

Now after the reboot it shows only 8gb of free space left what happened to the other 5 gb??

please help.

OS may have created a new restore point. It takes a lot of space. If you want to clean it do this - Explorer- Drive properties- choose disk clean up- tick the box which you want to remove- and now go to more option- here you find system restore "clean up". After cleaning all this you may get much space left. But after cleaning the files from system restore tab you will not be able to restore you PC to back date if something goes wrong.

stop the restore service by right-clicking my computer/manage/service & applications/service

here search for System restore service and set its preferences to disable or manual. Apply & OK. restart your pc.

then you can even perform the above option by clicking Turn off system restore on all drives

Yea, use Ccleaner to remove any previous system restore points easily, and then follow the above guide by ronit to disable system restore. It should work.

BTW, you can also disable Hibernate and Pagefile to get around 3GB free space, just in case if you are running low on free hard-disk space.

OP

i just noticed that in your snapshot its clearly mentioned-- disabled by group policy.

it means either you are a local user and no admin rights bt then ask who did it from gpedit.
