Storage Solutions HDD & ODD not showing up in BIOS

Hi!

A couple of days ago, a friend of mine bought PC components thanks to all those @ TE who advised/suggested me the config.! I assembled this one myself. :)

The config. included a WD5000AAKX (WD 500GB) SATA III HDD (we asked for WD5000AAKS but the dealer offered this instead @ same price), Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H mobo, LG OEM DVD±RW along with other stuff like AMD Athlon II X3 445, 2*2GB DDR3, etc.

I changed SATA operation mode from "Native IDE" to "AHCI" in BIOS and proceeded with Windows 7 64-bit installation. Now, everything is running fine except that this new HDD and ODD are not showing up in BIOS. Windows 7 is booting fine and everything is OK - HDD and ODD are detected in Windows 7. Shouldn't HDD and ODD be listed in BIOS even if they're operating in AHCI mode? They're being detected and listed in BIOS when I change operation mode back to "Native IDE". :S

Anyone else facing the same 'issue'?

I had a similar issue once on a friend's PC...

Try this:

1) Set SATA Operations to Native IDE.

2) In Win 7, go to Registry editor (regedit)

3) Set all the 'Start' values to 0 in the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>services>iaStorV>Start

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>msahci>Start

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>pciide>Start

Close and Reboot.

Now switch SATA Operation to AHCI as the AHCI driver has been enabled via the Registry.

NOTE: The above reguires knowledge or Registry editing. U might end up messing your Windows installation if you don't know what you are doing.

Also, I am no software genius, I learned this sometime back from someone and stored it in my database from where I have pulled this out. Might not work for you!!!
