After using new Seagate 500GB for few days I had came across a problem..

4 of the partitions of this drive had suddenly disappeared...:(

Not showing either in my computer nor in disk management..

Also tried using "Find and Mount".. it detects the lost partitions but when chosen mount option it doesn't works. (assigns the letter but dont show it in comp)

adding a image of disk management also, where it shows those 4 partitions but have no location for them..

Assigning new drive letter is also not working.

Plz help guys.

1. Start > Run > Type regedit and press Enter.
2. Locate the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
3. If there is any DWORD Value named NoDrives then delete it.
4. Restart to see the effect.

^^ Buddy, there was no sub folder in Policies

Weird. Are you using Windows XP? I just checked mine, and can see Explorer sub-section under Policies.. :|

Anyways try this method now:-

1. Start > Run > diskpart

2. Type list volume and press Enter.

3. Type assign letter X and press Enter(Replace X with your drive letter).

Suppose your Z:\ has disappeared then the command will be assign letter Z

4. Restart.

Nopes, I m using Win 7

Secondly, the list volume stuff also didnt worked..

it shows the partition currently visible..

and on typing assign letter N {to get N back} it says

"There is no volume specified.

Please select a volume and try again"

IIRC, there was some table error in HDD....

does anyone have clue about this..

By Find and Mount, do you mean partition Find and Mount??
Yes, I meant the same... tried it after seeing ur post in another thread

^^ Did saw ur thread and after that tried Partition Find and mount..

It do detects to lost partition but then on mounting it shows some error..

I don't think that your partition is deleted(refer to screenshot, it shows free spaces etc.), so there is no point of using Find and Mount.

Hmm you have any Live CD? Try to boot from a Live CD(Ubuntu, etc.) and check if you can see your partitions. If yes, then copy your files/datas to a different HDD and then start from beginning i.e. delete all drives in your present HDD, create again and transfer your files back. Give it a try!

Dude, the free space is there in other 160GB HDD.. I talking about disk 0, the 500GB one..

If u see in Disk 0 one, other than Boot Drive {B:} it shows 2 other primary partition of 80GB and 100GB and to logic drive of 80GB and 145GB...but no alphabet is assigned them

there are the 4 partition I have lost and trying to get them back...

Find and mount did discovered all 4 of them, put failed to mount them back.

Oh! Stupid me.. :P

Did you try other softwares suggested in that thread like GetDataBack, EaseUS Data Recovery Software etc.?

trying partition table doctor right now...:P

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Rebuilding the table in Partition table doctor.... Rebuilding is taking ages... lets see what happens..

i had exactly same issue on win 7. What i did was in xp, i created a folder Autorun.inf to prevent the drive from autorun virus infection. But in Win 7 It either doesnt show up my drives or simply wont accept any drive letters so i booted from xp and deleted the Autorun.inf from all drives and voila problem solved.

Didint succeeded in getting a direct solution.. hence did stuff-

1. recovered the data from all partitions through get data back..

2. Used Partition table doctor.. it said that table had gone wrong.. chose the option of rebuild table... It took ages to build it.. around 4-5 hrs from whole 500GB HDD.. dont know if this much time is normal or too slow

3. all the space of HDD now fell into the category of unallocated.. made fresh partitions now..

Lets see if these partitions work healthy..
