My HP DV6 1154tx lappy is now more then 2 years old, and without any issues (touch wood) it's working fine,

HD Tunes suggests that my HDD airflow temp is lil high and i should replace it. Everything else is ok though.

Also since day one I have been using CM Storm 19 lappy cooler, which has helped me control temps while I am gaming on it. But now I feel I should upgrade my OS to 64bit and my HDD to 7200rpm one, Since my lappy only supports DDR2 rams, I wont be able to upgrade it to DDR3.

But anyways, After....

1) Laptop cleanup : dust cleanup inside laptop

2) Upgrade to 7200rpm drive

3) Upgrade to 64bit OS

4) And upgrade to 8 gigs DDR2 RAM

..... I am hoping to get some performance boost while gaming.

Here's My laptop specs

Processor : Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz

GPU : ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650

RAM : 4 gigs DDR2 800MHz

HDD : Toshiba 500 gigs 5400rpm

Now due to insane pricing of HDDs, I am thinking of import option too. So far I have narrowed down to following options

1) http://cgi.ebay.in/w...#ht_1095wt_1139

- Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200rpm SATA - ST9500420A

- I have asked seller about warranty SS of Seagate website, Whether HDD RMAed or not, if successful and satisfactory answers received, will bid on it.

- Brand new is available for

2) http://www.ebay.in/itm/320GB-Seagate-Sata-2-5-Laptop-Internal-Hard-Disk-Drive-7200-RPM-Bill-Warranty-/330677044726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item4cfde345f6#ht_3988wt_905"]Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200rpm

- Brand new for 5750

3) http://www.buy.com/p.../211020102.html

- At buy.com price is 79 usd, so via SNS it might cost some ~1000 bucks less

Questions :

1) Will it be wise to import HDD? Duty is 7.02% IMO. But I am worried about in-transit damage.

2) I searched at prime and itwares web-sites, but could not find any model for 7200rpm laptop HDD. Are there any other dealers online to search for?

3) Any local links for following models

- seagate ST9320423AS

- seagate ST9500420AS

#crossbow - You haven't mentioned your budget. Still have a look at these-

1) http://www.ebay.in/itm/Seagate-Momentus-7200-500GB-7200RPM-SATA-3Gb-s-16MB-Cache-2-5-Inch-Internal-NB-/270891619232?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3f126613a0#ht_2111wt_908

Its a vey good & fast HDD. Use HDFCEBAY24 coupon to get a 500 discount.

2) Another option - http://www.ebay.in/itm/320GB-Seagate-Momentus-Laptop-SATA-Hard-Disk-7200-RPM-/180805226478?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item2a18d4cfee#ht_1942wt_908

But its just 900 cheaper with loss of 180 GB. So better VFM option would be first one.

Nope, did not know that. Is it a recent change in warranty term? Coz I know that they atleast have 2 years of warranty.

Thanks for the info though. Will check with respective dealer before buying.

So is there any good WD alternative you can suggest?

IMO, wait for the prices to come down. It does not make sense to splurge so much on the HDD's

As for the warranty, Seagate has reduced warranty for new HDD's to 1 year as a new years gift. Also, on second thought, they might be thinking that the world could end in 2012.

If looking at WD, go for WD Scorpio Black.

Yeah, the 2nd one is lot cheaper. I'd suggest you one thing. Hold on till prices slash, then go for a Hybrid drive. It will make your lappi much faster.

Yeah, recently Seagate and WD both reduced their warranty. But WD still gives 2 or 3yr warranty. (not confirm)
