Lemme do the Math for you guys....
Space Used [Actual] - 58.1GB
HDD Size - 465GB
So Technically space left - 406.9GB
But The Pc shows Space Left as - 337GB
Therefore Space Used in this case is 465-337= 128GB....FTW!!!!!!

Any idea about this problem???
Why is the drive eating up extra space....
PICS:

cleared recycle bin ?

edit....

i couldnt see any hidden file folder selected widin the C drive...

enable show hidden files...

if ur machine is branded then the system builder may have stored imp files hidden on ur drive..

try doing scandisk for error check..

keep 'Automatically fix errors' option checked..

system will reboot n check ur drive for errors...

if that doesnt help...

boot into ubuntu..if u have... or install any disk management utility to c if there is any hidden drive integrated...

ur $Windows folder seems to be an incomplete windows installation or recovery setup files...

incase setup was terminated abnormally...the disk space maybe reported incorrectly...which should be fixed wid scandisk...

earlier i had installed Win 7 but it didnot install due to some missing files in the setup...so i installed xp...but after few days i installed vista...is it due to that?

do a scandisk n it will fix any issues related to incorrect size.

browse those two $ folders... ($windows n $inplace)

screenshots will be fine :)

did a big scan...took like 1.5 hrs and now it shows 397GB Free...ie. 68GB Used.

I guess it looks fine now..

yup it fine :)

btw u can delete those two $ folders...

they contain garbage data

nt so sure abt $inplace though...

post screenshot so that people can suggest...

also disable hibernate n u will save 3.5GB more... reboot will be faster than hibernating wid 4GB memory :)

after disabling hibernate, delete the hiberfil.sys.

also, as you have 4gb of ram,..shorten the size of the pagefile to about 1/1.5 gb instead of the current 4 gb (pagefile.sys)

done...now it shows 401GB Free

Edit: After Restarting it shows 404GB Free ...Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

having the same problem, without installing anything new, my HDD C partition has comedown dramatically from 1.3 gb to 449mb...dunno what to do, except making a clean install of xp again
..mayb it'sall due to my failing HDD!

disk clean-up is required.

need to clear temp files...

rightclick the desired drive n select properties...

hit 'Disk Cleanup'

clean all undesired files...
