A few days bac, i got a trojan alert on Avast & soon after that XP wud auto-reboot(wat a fetish! ) & generally wud exhibit signs of having been infested with a virus/trojan- ADaware suddenly lost all its definitions update,so did Spybot & a-squared too.when i tried to run a virus scan thro Avast,XP rebooted. Firewall got disabled automatically. at one bootup there was nothing but XP error pop-ups!! the screen was full of them !
In short, i was screwed..
But then i thot, its nothing a format & a fresh install wont fix.right?

1)When i tried teh "fixmbr" option- it said "this system has a atypical MBR-if u continue, all partitions will b lost"- i gave it the go-ahead. But even after doing teh fixmbr thing, it again gave the same error!
2)It also gave errors when it ws "copying files reqd for setup".Says that some file could not b copied-upon hitting retry- it did continue tho..
3)Tehn XP showed up a BSOD-saying "IRQs unequal or something..& that setup cant continue..
4) i thot this b**ch HDD is gone! as a last effort, i chose the "Format using FAT32 file system" while installing.
This time XP installed itself flawlessly ! No errors, no nothing..

So,coming to the point of the story- is it possible taht there cud still b a virus/trojan that is resident in my MBR or something..? even after i deleted my old partitions & did a fresh XP install??

After the fresh install, i hav done a trojan scan thro A-squared & a virus scan thro Kaepaersky. Plus Adaware & Spybot too. Nothing...

If you have formatted and done the install, nothing to worry now, you would have a new MBR, so take precautions form now on.
