I have a XFX 7800GT with 2 DVI -ports & i wish to connect it to my Samsung LCD TV- R81 which has a HDMI port for watching movies. (DVI-rips, x264.mkv etc... Non-HD content)

I want to know where from can i get a HDMI-DVI Cable so as to connect the two?? how much wud it cost?

P.S: i know as a last resort i can get it from DealExtreme, but it wud take like 45days :S

TIA !

I have a related question.

I have a DVD player with HDMI out. And a TV with component in.

Is there a HDMI to Component cable that I can use with this? Isn't there a cable like this for the Xbox that I can use?

Why do you want to do this strange setup? Isn't component out available in your DVD player?

Hi,

Strange I know.

My DVD player supports upscaling only via HDMI (not via Component). And as I mentioned earlier, my TV does not have HDMI and so I want to try this setup.

Possible? How does the Xbox cable look like? Isn't there an HDMI to component variety?

^That's because of DRM restrictions.. upscaling over component is not possible for copy-protected DVDs. Try copied DVDs and see.

Copied DVDs won't work either. It works only via HDMI.

If an HDMI cable is plugged into the DVD player's HDMI output, the upscaling works (tested on friend's HDMI TV).

So back to my original questions, XBox owners please help. Isn't there a HD to component cable for the XBox? Is the "HD" end the same as HDMI, or is it something else?

the 7800Gt comes with a " HD-TV" out. & HD to Component connector.

Will HDMI-DVI cable provide better picture quality over the Component while connecting to the LCD?

i am going to watch SD content/ DVD mostly..

HDMI to DVI is definitely better than component!:hap5:
as component is analog and mostly meant for CRTs(non digital displays)

whereas DVI is especially meant for LCDs as they are digital!!

But, as HDMI also includes audio streaming, DVI won't offer that, so u'll have to arrange something else for audio!!

Have to get the HDMI-DVI Cable( out of stock at IT Depot) ; till then conected thro VGA cable!! Looks very nice!! very usable as a Desktop Monitor too.

Now just have to get a PS2 extendor cable for the KB & Mouse.(any idea where from?) Wireless KB/M are bad...

Umm, if your TV does not have HDMI or DVI in, I am guessing it is a CRT

No point upscaling the video to a higher resolution as your player upscales the video to have the TV downscale it anyway to fit it on the CRT

Hi my TV is the Philips 29PT8836_94. Yes, it is a CRT

However, here are the resolutions that it supports.

Here is the resolution is supports (from the website/manual)

480p@60Hz

720p@50, 60Hz

1080i@60Hz

1080p@60Hz

- So why not try upscaling?

There are DVD player that upscale via component (There is one Oppo Player). My player does it only via HDMI out...so back to my question regarding that cable. Anyone has experience with it? It is a regular HDMI at the "HD" end?

EDIT:

Hi actually, I think I have my answer now.

There are two different ports I am talking about. And two different type of cables. One is the regular HDMI port that is smaller and that uses an HDMI to HDMI cable.

Second is an HD port (larger) which uses the HD AV or HD Component cable.

So that was a wild goose chase :(
