i bought a HDMI to DVI cable from ebay for Rs.195/- [the one which has 24+1 DVI-D at one end and HDMI at other]

plugged it to my PS3 and LCD HP w1707 then turned it on.
no display
then connected PS3 to my SD TV[composite cables] and LCD [HDMI to dvi]

when i turned on PS3, it showed 'hdmi cable detected do you want to use HDMI output' i selected yes. then TV went black and nothing happened in LCD [ still showing check signal cable]

i tried selecting HDMI from video settings>output but TV goes blank everytime and nothing is displayed on LCD as well

i always use VGA output for my PC. this was first time i used a DVI cable

i cant find out what's the problem. Is there any possibility of faulty cable?

LCD supports HDCP. i googled about it and found many people used it with ps3 and it worked fine just by plugging cable and turning on both ps3 and lcd.

The cable might be faulty or could be a handshake problem. Could you check the cable by plugging it into an alternate source? If your GPU has the HDMI out, you can try plugging it and check if the PC outputs the display properly.

cant check that cable with GPU as i sold my CPU, mobo and RAM few months ago. currently using old Pentium D and FX5500.

what is handshake problem ?? should i buy a new HDMI to DVI cable locally ?? [Rs.350/- ones??]

it could be a dvi to hdmi cable..is there such a possiblity?. i bought an hdmi cable with hdmi on both ends first it was showing disturbances but when i changed ends crystal clear picture
